As the Old DCU continues to wind down, and the New Marvel continues to be… Not a thing that is happening, the big news this week is a great collection of graphic novels.
First up, and I’m not sure if this is a typo, but it seems like a new edition of THE LIFE & TIMES OF SCROOGE MCDUCK, VOL 1 is being released by BOOM! If this is true, the long out of print volume, which continues reportedly the best comic book biography of all time (seriously) will finally be available again, and no longer cost hundreds of bucks on eBay. That would be awesome. Read more...

Well, hello there Star Wars fans!! Yesterday in NYC was a beautiful day -- the sun was shining, i got sushi delivered for lunch, and I was full of excitement to go see Jimmy Fallon's book signing at Barnes and Noble for his new book Thank You Notes. And then, as if it couldn't get any better, I suddenly realized it was May 25th -- the 34th anniversary of the release of Star Wars!!! The day, if you were alive then, that changed the rest of our lives!!
First off, here's a gratuitous photo of Jimmy Fallon, mostly because he's SOFA KING HOT!!!
So yes, UHEM, I was alive when Star Wars first blasted in to our galaxy. I was 8, I was into The Bionic Woman, Wonder Woman, and dragged my best friend Holly Hobbie with me everywhere. Mom and Dad had already seen Star Wars and raved about it. I wasn't sold. I wasn't quite a sci-fi fan, I still watched Saturday morning cartoons, and quite frankly, Star Wars sounded too much like a grown up film -- aka BORING.
I remember Dad driving us by the Mann's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood where Star Wars premiered. There were busloads of people, crowds, lines, it was crazy!
So a couple of months later when the hype of Star Wars had finally started to dwindle, my dad took my sister and me to Ventura, just north of Los Angeles. It was one of the only towns still playing Star Wars in the LA area. I vaguely remember going kicking and screaming most of the way, my dad telling us over and over how much we'd love it.

I'm not sure what's cooler here: the fact that Dynamite Entertainment is producing a comic book (launching in August) based on the classic The Six Million Dollar Man TV series, or that they've got Kevin Smith to do it! Oh, did I mention there's going to be a The Bionic Woman comic in 2012?
The Six Million Dollar Man, starring Lee Majors, first hit the small screen in 1973 with three TV movies and then a series that lasted 5 seasons. The TV show proved so popular that a spinoff, The Bionic Woman, launched in 1976 with Lindsay Wagner. While several "reunion" TV movies featuring the bionic duo, as well as a short-lived reboot of The Bionic Woman, has aired since then, there hasn't been a definitive reboot of The Six Million Dollar Man...until now. Though Smith talks of his previous attempt to bring back the classic show:
"True story: when I turned in a script for The Six Million Dollar Man back in '98, there was an exec who dismissed it as being more like a comic book than a movie. It's an honor to head back into the trenches with the same creative team at Dynamite that made my Green Hornet script so readable and fun. It makes me moist."
Will Dynamite's The Bionic Man be the template for an eventual big-screen adaptation a la The Green Hornet? Only time will tell, but with such talents as Alex Ross, Phil Hester, and Jonathan Lau on board, it's bound to be interesting! Says Ross:
"I'm one of those kids who grew up with The Six Million Dollar Man toys all over my house. I still prize them as one of the favorite parts of my youth for the amazing variety of things that Steve Austin could use or fight against. The Six Million Dollar Man is one of the coolest original superhero properties invented for television."
The Bionic Man hits stands in August, but you can get your first peek at his new look here:
