Volkswagen Canada will only bring five-door versions of the Golf R to Canada when it begins selling the car in spring of 2012 for the MSRP of $39,675.
The fastest Golf in the fleet will be limited to 500 cars nation-wide, with dealers getting cars based on how many GTI models they have sold, although every dealer will be offered a minimum of one unit. If the dealer doesn't want the car (who would be so crazy?) the car will go to another dealer who has stronger demand.
All hatchback Golf R models in Canada will come with a manual transmission and no options since they already come as loaded as you can get, including a Haldex all-wheel-drive system. The car will have LED headlamps, but no LED taillamps.
A three-door version will be offered in the U.S. only, and again only with a manual transmission.
The Golf R will produce 256 horsepower and 243 pound-feet of torque from a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine.
Colours will be rising blue metallic, candy white, deep black pearl, tomato red and carbon steel grey metallic.
Expect the blue ones to be gone by the time you get down to your nearest dealer to make a deposit.
