The Post-Gazette reaches out to the community through its IRS-approved non-profit organization, PG Charities. Many of the Post-Gazette's community involvement activities are found under the PG Charities umbrella. These include:

Although the Post-Gazette's charitable activities began in the 1930s, the 501c3 was formed in 1996 to better organize our community outreach efforts. We are proud of our long history of commitment to the quality of life and economic strength of all people in our region.

While not a piece of the non-profit PG Charities organization, there are other programs that the Post-Gazette manages as part of our commitment to the community. These include the Fall FoodShare food drive, helping to feed the hungry in southwestern Pennslvania, Jefferson Awards, honoring volunteers who are strengthening our community and Free Care Friends, offering financial support to sick children served by Children's Hospital. In addition we manage educational programs such as the Western Pennsylvania Spelling Bee, that encourages basic language skills.
