She was born on Saturday, 28 January 1899.1 In 1966 Anna lived in 2108 North 16th St., Arlington, VA, and was a well known researcher of the Major family who had traveled and written extensively on this subject. Much of the information obtained by the author on the Major family came from Anna.
She died on 1982.2

On this Eleventh day of January, One thousand Eight Hundred and Fifty personally appeared before me, william W. Steele County Clerk of said County of hancock and State of Illinois James Major aged Fifty eight years a resident of Handcock County, Illinois, who being duly sworn according to law, declares, that he is the identical, James Majodrs who was a Privite in the Company commanded by Captain Michael Wolf in the 1st Regiment of Riflemen Commanded by General James hopkins in the war with Great britain declared by the United States on the 18th day of JUne A.D. 1812. that he woluntered at Madisonville Hopkins Count, Kentucky on or about the first day of September AD 1812 for the Term of two months and continued in actual Service in said wasr for the Term of Two months and was honorably discharged at or near Vincennes in the Territory of Indiania on the first day of November AD 1812 as will appear by his Original Certificate of discharge here with presented, Marked "A". Also, that he voluntered at Madisonville on ord about the 1st of September AD 1813 for the Term of three months in the Company Commanded by Captain Wm R. McGary in the 5th Regiment Commanded by Col.________ in the 3rd Brigade of kentucky Melitia and continued in actual Service in said War for the Term of three Months and was honorably discharged at May limestone in the Stae of Kentujcky on the first of December AD 1813 as well appear by his Original Certificate of discharge herewith presented marked "B".
He makes this declaration for the purpose of obtaining the Bountyland to which he may be entitled under the Act granting bounty land to certain Officers and Soldiers who have been engaged in the Military Service of the United States passed September 28th 1850.

" James Major Died Sep. 23 1874 Aged 81 y. 5 m. 23 d. Farewell dear Husband and Father We ne'er shall see thee more for thou art gone to thy savior while we are left here below ".1

On 14 May 1833, at Hopkins CO, KY Court Col. Daniel Ashby, aged 73, and Capt. George Timmons, aged 72, state that Lewis Howell of Gallatin CO, Illinois is the oldest brother of Vincent Howell who was a Lt in the VA Cont Line and died in service. Lewis Howell is the eldest son of William Howell, a Wagon master, who died in service. Zachariah Fugate, Martin Fugate, Lewis Fugate, Sally Berry wife of William Berry, Katherine Slaton wife of Arthur Slation, Letty Clifft wife of William Clifft and Polly Fugate are the children and Heirs at Law of Martha Fugate who formerly was Martha Howell, daughter of the said William Howell and sister of Lewis Howell. William Major, James Major, Robert Major and Alexander Major are the children and Heirs at Law of Letty Major, decd, who was the daughter of William Howell, decd., and sister of Lewis Howell. Vincent Howell and Mason Howell are the children of and Heirs at Law of Jilson Howell, decd., who was also the son of William Howell, decd., and brother of Lewis Howell. Sarah Miller, who was born on 19 Mar 1755, in Carter CO, TN on 7 Mar 1838 states that Katherine Howell now Katherine Kelly was always called a daughter of William Howell, decd. She was a sister to Vincent Howell and married Richard Kelly in Frederick CO, VA, moved to Botetourt CO, VA and then moved to Carter CO, TN. Hannah Hendrex, who was born on 3 Jan 1759, states in Carter CO, TN on 7 Mar 1838 that William Howell and his son, Vincent Howell, enlisted in Frederick CO, VA. She also states that she knows that Katherine Kelly is the daughter of William Howell, decd. Richard Kelly, who will be 74 on 26 Mar 1838, in Carter Co, TN on 7 Mar 1838 states that he believes that his wife, Katherine Kelly, is the sole Heir of William Howell and Vincent Howell who enlisted in 1776. Katherine Kelly, aged 73, in Carter CO, TN on 7 Mar 1838 states that her father, William Howell, and brother, Vincent Howell, enlisted under Capt. Long of Frederick CO, VA. He married Letitia Lewis, daughter of William Lewis, at in VA.2,3 William Howell Jr. was born circa 1725 Spotsylvania Co., VA; Orange Co. was formed from Spotsylvania Co. in 1734 and Frederick Co. was formed from Orange Co. in 1738-1743.4 He began military service on 4 April 1776 at in VA Enlisted in the 11th Virginia Regiment, commanded by Col Daniel Morgan, and served under Captain Gabriel Long.5 He died in 1779 Frederick Co., VA, in an Army camp from smallpox.4,6
