Not even the cool weather could spoil Senior Day as the Mustangs (18-0) swept Queen's (4-10) by scores of 6-0 and 6-2. Appropriately, all 6 gradulating student-athletes had big days for Western.
The Mustangs (14-0) travelled to Toronto (5-5) and Guelph (5-6) September 24 and 25th and got all they could handle but ground out 4 more victories. On Saturday in Game 1 vs Toronto, Melinda Stevenson (Brampton) pitched 6 innings and recorded 12K for the 4-2 victory. Molly Yetman (Cambridge) struckout all 3 batters she faced to record the save. At the plate, Lindsey Martin (London) went 3 for 4 and AJ Anstett (Cargill) 2 for 4 for the Mustangs. Les Hanson (Oakville) hit a solo homerun. Meg Hewins (Burlington) and Kara Stirling (London) both picked up a RBI.
The Mustangs (10-0) won this early season first place battle with two victories (2-0; 7-0) over the Windsor Lancers (6-4) on Wednesday night. In Game 1, Mel Stevenson (Brampton) pitched a no hitter through 5 innings and left the game with a 1-0 lead. Molly Yetman (Cambridge) struck out 4 in 2 innings of shutout relief for the save. Catcher Les Hanson (Oakville) provided all the offense the Mustangs would need this game with a 2nd inning 2 out RBI single through the middle. In the bottom of the 6th, Freshman infielder Shannon Davidson (Whitby) delivered an insurance run with a 2 out RBI single through the right side.
