I feel that before getting too far into my review of this seven episode set--containing the origin adventure of the "Lion Force" team--I should note that the Anime Works (formerly Media Blasters) Voltron sets from about five years ago are still available,* and may represent a slightly better value for fans and completionists. You see, although Voltron: The Legend Begins likely has higher visual quality, the Anime Works sets contain double the episodes for about half the money. I won't make any kind of full-throated endorsement for the earlier release, not having seen it, but I'm just saying it's out there. [Edit: Hm, it looks like there might be a "buyer beware" situation with the Media Blasters sets, which may contain discs with a defect that cause them to wobble in DVD players.]
That's not to say the disc under consideration today from World Events Productions and Classic Media is exactly a slouch. Returning Voltron to DVD, the two outfits have put together a decent package, albeit one with a couple of curious presentation choices.

Since the earthquake and tsunami of last March, a number of artists and other creative types have put together anthologies and art books that serve a dual purpose: To raise money for disaster relief and to encourage the victims of the disaster not to lose hope.
The most recent of these is Believe In Yourself, a collection of sketches and character drawings based on the Gurren Lagann anime and loosely organized around the theme of hope. The project was led by Masahiko Otsuka, the director of Petite Princess Yucie and an episode director for such well-known anime as Fruits Basket, Gurren Lagann, and Gunbuster 2. Contributors include Hiroyuki Imaishi, director of Gurren Lagann and Panty & Stocking; Shouko Nakagawa (Shokotan), who sings the theme song of Gurren Lagann; Akemi Hayashi, character designer of Peacemaker KUROGANE and animator for Revolutionary Girl Utena; and Atsushi Nishigori, the character designer for Gurren Lagann and Idol M@ster. The American contributors include several members of the production team of the series Avatar: The Last Airbender: co-creator Bryan Konietzko, director Joaquim Dos Santos, episode director Ethan Spaulding (also the director of the Thundercats reboot), and background artist Elsa Garagarza. The world-famous lovable Domo is back, and now you can follow him all-year 'round in the new book Domo In The World. Just released from Abrams Image, the photo book features a plush Domo through many seasons and holidays -- back-to-school, Thanksgiving, sunbathing, and much more. Making Domo In The World even cooler is that all the text is written in haiku form!
Domo started life as a mascot for Japan's NHK television station, starring in a series of stop-action shorts in 1998. Created by Tsuneo Gōda, who directed the shorts, Domo is said to be a "strange creature that was hatched from an egg." His mouth locked open in a permanent toothy expression, the fuzzy squarish brown character boasts more than a million fan-sites, has over 230,000 friends on Facebook, and has appeared in everything from manga to T-shirts to video games.
