Viz Media editor Alexis Kirsch revealed via Twitter last week that Viz has licensed the manga Fluffy Fluffy Cinnamoroll (Fuwa Fuwa Cinnamon), which features a cute dog who began life as a mascot created by the Sanrio Corporation, the parent company of Hello Kitty. Viz is definitely showing a tendency toward the kawaii, as they have also just published two graphic novels based on the dog-bean hybrids known as Mameshiba.
But why stop there? Hello Kitty may be the queen of kawaii, but the quirky characters churned out by competitor San-x blend cuteness and neurosis in a way that is truly addictive. Here are some San-x characters that currently adorn stationery, junk food, and knickknacks, and occasionally pop up in anime shorts; I'd love to see get their own manga here.

Sanrio's Hello Kitty has been many things in her 37-year-old existence -- and now she can add Zombie to the list! Kitan Club, a Japanese capsule toy maker, is teaming up with the artist team Mad Barbarians to create a line of undead versions of Hello Kitty and her friends:
The keychain toys will be available randomly in Japanese vending machines for about 300 yen, or $3.70 U.S. In addition to Hello Kitty, there will also be Fifi, Mimmy, Mory, Joey, Tracy, and Tippy.
