Shocker Toys: Champion of the Indie Action Figure or Devil in Disguise? It seems that the fan community is split on the subject and any discussion (or review as we’ve found out) becomes a spirited debate on everything from the badassery of The Maxx to missed release dates. We at MTV Geek! do our best to just look at the product, and so far we’re happy with the figures and the diverse lineup Shocker provides. Even though we normally let the toys speak for themselves, at this year’s American International Toy Fair, MTV Geek! had a chance to talk with Shocker Toys’ Senior Partner Geoff Beckett about what offerings Shocker will be delivering in the coming months:

Kotobukiya have become known as one of the premier statue and collectible companies in the world when it comes to pop culture. Consistently, they have managed to produce some of the most innovative sculpts from their various licenses, and at this year’s American International Toy Fair we had a chance to interview Shingo Nakagawa, Kotobukiya’s International Media & Marketing Coordinator, about their upcoming products from Marvel, Star Wars, and many more.

Check out the video interview below:

Toynami has an exciting batch of action figures in stores and on the way for Bleach fans, and MTV Geek has the scoop:

* Figures of Ichigo and Byakuya have been recently re-released in an "encore edition". The first batch were sold out and fetching a high price on the secondary market, so Toynami wanted to give fans another chance to get them.

* The Renji and Toshiro action figures will be rereleased this Summer.

* And a new deluxe version of Ichigo is being sculpted now and ready in July.

Take a look at this video interview MTV Geek had with Toynami president George Sohn at Toy Fair on the new Bleach toys!

Another Toy Fair has passed, and after several days of non-stop trekking through the 600,000 square foot Jacob Javitz Convention Center there was only one thing left to do: recap the event. Or sleep. Sleep is always good.

So what did the hobby gaming industry bring to the table (no pun intended) this year?

Steve Jackson Games revealed several new Munchkin products while also showing off a new version of Zombie Dice that will come in a branded zipper-bag. The new bag is a big sigh of relief since Zombie Dice is a fantastic game, but many are tired of seeing dice fly across the room.

When is a DC Universe Classics figure not really a classic? When it’s based on a character created solely as a way to make the 1980’s Super Powers cartoon more ethnically diverse, that’s when! While heroes like Apache Chief and El Dorado don’t register with most comic book fans; those same names instill a deep loving nostalgia with fans of the old Super Powers animated series. At this year’s Toy Fair, Mattel unveiled the 18th wave of DCUC figures, and regardless of your position on the line’s selection, you can’t deny that the Four Horsemen made these little-known heroes look magnificent!

Although Captain Boomerang, Toyman, and Bronze Tiger (our favorite in the wave thanks to his alternate head) are the norm for obscure DC character selection, and a boon to the villain roster – Black Vulcan, Samurai, El Dorado, and the collect & Connect Apache Chief help to complete the heroes featured in Super Powers, following in the footsteps of Golden Pharaoh and Cyclotron. Wave 18 hits Wal-Mart shelves this fall as a limited exclusive before making their way to retail stores everywhere!

Check out these photos of the 2-Up prototypes straight from the Mattel showroom, minus Apache Chief:

This year’s American International Toy Fair was an overwhelming spectacle filled with all of our favorite plastic effigies. Now that it’s at an end, we can reflect back on the grandiose action figure showings from our favorite companies – and what better way to do this than through the magic of moving pictures?! Today we’re gonna take a look at 3 videos that top our list of highlights from the show, when it comes to toys based on our favorite comic properties!

1. Todd’s Zombie Fixation

While The Walking Dead action figures were a huge draw for fans of the book, the fact that Todd McFarlane took the time to spearhead his company’s Toy Fair presence was very cool in itself.

2. Straight From a Horseman’s Mouth

While we admit to being partial to Mattel’s DC Universe Classics line of figures, you’ve gotta admit that having Cornboy from the Four Horsemen dish on all the DCUC reveals is pretty f’n cool! Who better to talk about these spandex-clad heroes than one of the men who sculpted them?!

3. Marvel at These… sorry, crappy pun halted.

Everything was on display here, from the massive Sentinel to the miniscule Wasp and Ant Man that come in the Avengers Set. While Marvel Legends doesn’t come back until next year, Hasbro is really making the 3 ¾” size better and better with each release!

Stay tuned to MTV Geek! for all your post-Toy Fair coverage!

So I was supposed to go to Egypt with friends but I guess there's some stuff going on there and somehow my trip got cancelled. And what does any girl in her right mind do when she can't climb the Egyptian pyramids? Why she goes to the New York Toy Fair of course!!!

This year it was at the Javits Center and after having to do some Olympic-style crowd surfing at NYCC last October, I was pleasantly surprised to see the convention center full of suited adult professionals and tons-o-toys for everyone!!

I felt like I was getting away with a guilty pleasure - the forbidden fruit of cruising around isles of toys, talking to vendors, playing with their toys, getting "samples." There was not even a kid in sight!! I mean, besides me!!

A few of my highlights were:

Meeting my new love, the 24 inch talking Plush Chewie!! Take a look at that face, would you??? This beast of love is a cross between my cat Lila and Teddy from the movie AI! It's made by Underground Toys, the people at this booth started watching me closely as I made several jokes about running away with Chewie.

Here's an interview with Robyn from Underground Toys discussing their new Star Wars toys!!

Toy Fair allowed us to get close up looks at some of our favorite company’s newest offerings. One of those was, of course, Kidrobot and their insanely fun lines of vinyl offerings. Right there in the front of their display sat none other than their newest offerings: The Family Guy mini-figures! After removing the secret chase figures from the lineup (yes, we know what the chases are! Ha!), we snapped some photos of our favorite show -- that randomly cuts away 90 times an episode! Here’s the info on Peter and the gang straight from Kidrobot themselves:

Kidrobot teams up with prolific animator Seth MacFarlane to bring you TV's all-American but totally twisted and dysfunctional family known as the Griffins, and their favorite New England neighbors.

Here to make us laugh and cry, each of the 15 blind-boxed Family Guy mini figures comes with an insert card and accessory - and raises the question, "Which FGKR will you get?" Giggity!

Toy Fair ended last week, and a great showing was put on overall by all of the companies involved (that we cared about in our selfish little action figure-loving kinda way). Shocker Toys was among that number, and regardless of setbacks they’re still fighting the good fight when it comes to getting your favorite characters made into action figures! In fact, we here at MTV Geek! will be bringing you a number of toy reviews in the coming weeks from the company’s flagship Indie Spotlight line. First however, here’s some info on the planned rollout of Shocker’s 2011 toy lines.

Official Press Release

Indie Spotlight: The 6 inch scaled, super posable action figure series with characters ripped from the pages of your favorite independent comic books returns! Indie Spotlight Series 2 with The Tick, Dick Tracy, Ignacia, King Zombie and Jack Staff are on their way to our warehouse and will be ready to ship in no time. Indie Spotlight Series 3 with The Phantom, Zorro, Nira-X, Fist of Justice and Grendel, as well as variants for The Phantom and Grendel, will be next on deck. Indie Spotlight action figure 2 packs are on the way as well featuring Captain Action/ Madman and Lazerman/ Zen. Rounding out these lines, Shocker Toys pays respect to the comic heroes that started it all with a Golden Age action figure line featuring Dan Garret “The Blue Beetle”, The DareDevil, The Arrow, The Black Terror and The Heap with variants for The Heap and DareDevil!
