Offender in custody after attacking an 18-year-old male
Sept. 5, 8 p.m.

An 18-year-old male said he was robbed and attacked while walking home near the corner of Fremont Street and Belden Avenue, according to reports. He was approached by a male in his 50s who asked if he could have a cigarette. The man filing the report said yes, reached into his pocket, and gave the other man a cigarette. They walked together for a while and then suddenly grabbed the alleged offender grabbed the first man’s shirt and caused both of them to fall to the ground. The alleged victim struggled to get the other man off of him. The alleged offender ripped the alleged victim’s jean pocket and stole more than $100. He then got up and said, “If you try and do something, I’ll shoot you,” and fled. The man filling the report ran to a nearby gas station and called police. Police found a man walking on Broadway who matched the description. The alleged victim identified the man and the alleged offender is now in custody.

Male in custody after stealing a six pack of beer from a male on the street
Sept. 5, 11 p.m.

A 41-year-old male is in custody after allegedly striking a 35-year-old male and stealing his six pack of beer near the corner of Sheridan Road and Halsted Street, according to reports. The first man was walking home from the store when he was approached by the other man, who asked him for a beer out of his bag. The alleged victim declined and the alleged offender punched him in the face, causing the victim to fall to the ground. The alleged offender then began to choke the alleged victim, grabbed the bag, and fled. Police searched the area for the described offender and found him sitting near the lake drinking the beer.

Apartment broken into on Sheffield
Sept. 6, 1 p.m.

A 21-year-old male said his apartment was broken into near the corner of Sheffield Avenue and Addison Street, according to reports. He left his apartment without locking his front door while he made a quick trip to a nearby McDonald’s. When he got back, he heard noise coming from his apartment. When he walked into the front door he heard someone running out the back door. He tried to chase after the unknown offender but couldn’t catch him. He did recover his bike that was stolen, because the offender left it in the alley. The offender stole two laptops from his apartment. No arrests.

New business broken into and robbed
Sept. 6, 3 p.m.

A new business opening near the corner of Clark Street and Sheffield Avenue was broken into and robbed, according to reports. The landlord said he locked the doors after the day’s construction was finished. When the construction crew came in the next day, they noticed the front door was unlocked and the rear door was wide open. Three flat-screen TVs that were mounted to the wall were stolen. No arrests.

21-year-old female robbed in the middle of the day
Sept. 8, 1:30 p.m.

A 21-year-old female said she was threatened with a knife and robbed near the corner of Addison Street and Clark Street, according to reports. She was approached by an unknown male who allegedly held a knife to her side and said, “Don’t scream or holler or I will stab you. Now give me your purse.” She opened her purse and the man stole her wallet containing cash and social security card. No arrests.
