Book: Sarah Palin, hoops star Glen Rice hooked up at 1987 Great Alaska Shootout

Libor Jany,Connecticut Media Group:

An explosive new Sarah Palin biography contends that the former vice presidential candidate and Alaska governor had a one-night fling in 1987 with former University of Michigan basketball star Glen Rice, according to various published reports.

Palin, who was reportedly 23 and unmarried at the time, was working as a sports reporter for Anchorage TV station KTUU, while Rice, then a 20-year-old junior sharpshooter for the Wolverines, was in town for the Great Alaska Shootout.

The reports should be taken with a freighter-full of salt as they're tied to a story out today from the National Enquirer's website. The Enquirer claims that it got its hands on a copy of author Joe McGinniss' "The Rogue: Searching for the Real Sarah Palin," which is slated for a Tuesday release.

While researching for the book, The New York Times best-selling author rented a house next door to Palin's, wrote Alex Pareene of Salon.com.

Palin had recently graduated from the University of Idaho with a bachelor of science degree in journalism, before landing the KTUU sportscaster gig in Anchorage.

At the time, Palin was reportedly just months away from marrying her husband Todd, with whom she allegedly indulged in cocaine use, the book said.

Rice, a three-time All-Star, went on to a solid 15-year NBA career with six teams, winning an NBA ring with the Lakers in 2001.

A recent Public Policy Polling poll found that the majority of Palin's supporters oppose relationships between people of different races, AOL News reported.
