18.June.1815 - Waterloo: The Imperial French Army under the command of the Emperor Napoleon is defeated by the combined forces of the Duke of Wellington and the Prussian army.

18.June.2011 - Edmonton: 196 years later, Sherbrooke Liquor Store and Alley Kat Brewery release the Second Edition of NEAPOLEON. The combined forces of Chocolate, Strawberry and Vanilla in a single beer prove no match for the sweet tooth of the Emperor.

C’est la guerre.

The “sister” of Glenn Sherbrooke, this is Olde Deuteronomy is aged in Glen Breton. If you’re trying to puzzle out the name and the label, think “Ed Wood”. Sorry. This beer is so good, as with Pumpkin Pi, Alley Kat will produce this under their own name in the future. All glory is fleeting.

This is a collaboration between Alley Kat, The Lingnan and ourselves. Alley Kat celebrated their 15th Anniversary last year, and this is also the 15th beer they’ve brewed for us. This is the second beer we’ve done with the Lingnan. Two years ago, we collaborated on Pi Jiu, which was a ginseng infused Pilsner. This one, however, is modeled after a Belgian Wit, and is already an unqualified hit. Brewed with Orange Peel and Coriander, it makes a terrific summer beer. Ok, so we’re a little early. - $15.99/6 pack

Based on the famous Dessert from New Orleans, and married to a traditional Bavarian style dark wheat ale, the result is a liquid version of “East meets West”. Brewed with Vanilla Extract and Demerara Sugar (Yes, we have no bananas) the flavour profile hits you with subtle notes of caramel, banana and vanilla - the recipe was developed with our own Jeff Werstiuk- $15.99/6 pack

If the label art seems familiar, it should. We managed to pull Scott Shaw! (Yes, the exclamation point IS part of his name) away from his day job as a Flintstones Animator. Next time you’re in the cereal aisle of your local grocery store, check out a box of Cocoa or Fruity Pebbles to see more of his work.

If the Aztecs had known about roasted barley we’re pretty sure they would have invented this beer first. The “hot” in this Hot Chocolate stout was inspired by the original Aztec version, which included roasted cocoa beans, vanilla bean and chilies. Combined with that is a Foreign Extra Stout base style to help deliver the goods, which hopefully won’t make you clutch your chest, yet may just take your breath away.

Based on an original recipe concocted by local Edmonton homebrewers Dave Perry and Jeff Werstiuk, this is our first beer to be brewed by the skilled hands at the Paddock Wood Brewery in Saskatoon.

Using barrels of Glen Breton 10 year old (Canadian Single Malt Whisky from the Glenora Distillery) we aged Alley Kat Amber for 3 months. The result is a 12.2% winter warmer, that co-incidentally fell afoul of the temporary ban that was put in place by the AGLC regarding beers over 11.9%.

The ban has been lifted (though sadly, the result will be that the next time we brew this beer, it will be about a dollar more per bottle) and we’re currently aging Olde Deuteronomy in the next set of barrels. - $4.99/341 ml bottle

For the second year in a row Alley Kat and Sherbrooke Liquor have collaborated in brewing a limited edition batch chosen from the portfolio of the winner of the annual Aurora Brewing Challenge. The 2009 winner was Bruce Sample, and he chose this Russian Imperial Stout to step up to the plate for him, renamed KGB for this commercial incarnation. KGB will be re-brewed each year, to commiserate the anniversary of the October Revolution, November 5, 1917 - $6.99/650 ml bottle

Each year, Sherbrooke sponsors the winner of the EHG "HomeBrewer of the Year" - they get to pick a recipe, which we brew. The 2010 winners were Ray Duperron and Patrick Doyle. Ochsner will be re-brewed each year, to commemorate the anniversary of Alberta joing Confederation, September 1, 1905.

This robust porter starts with lots of chocolate and coffee up front followed by dried fruit. The finish is moderately sweet balanced with roasted malts and a lingering bitterness. - $16.99/6 pack

This beer ages spectacularly well so you may want to pick up a case right now, refrigerate it, and compare it with the batch we brew next year.

From the darkest reaches of the Carpathian Mountains comes an elixir concocted by a man who stared into the true face of evil and lived to tell about it. Van Helsings’ All Natural Mouthwash is the cure for what ails you. It helps to ward off things that go bump in the night, and goes great with pasta! Fortunately the kind and talented folks at the Alley Kat Brewing Company were able to reproduce this miracle liquid for us decent citizens of Edmonton. And yes, that’s a whole garlic clove sitting there in the bottle. So much for keeping secret ingredients a secret..... - $3.99/bottle
