Flight of the Conchords turns interludes into surreal comedy
“New Zealand’s fourth most popular folk parody duo” is selling itself short.
Two chairs, two guitars and two guys with Kiwi accents --- frankly, it doesn’t sound like much. But out of such modest circumstances is a comedy phenomenon born. Flight of the Conchords became a surprise summer hit last year on HBO, and now the duo has a top-5 album and a sold-out national tour, which arrived Wednesday at the Chicago Theatre.
Perfect. As Conchord fans know, Wednesday is “Business Time,” the night for wearing an ugly T-shirt from a team-building exercise, packing 20 minutes of love-making into two, and then falling asleep even as an unsatisfied partner wonders, “Is that it?”
