UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP ups EVP/International Marketing ANDREW KRONFELD to the new position of Pres./Global Marketing. KRONFELD, a 20-year veteran at UNIVERSAL, will be based in LONDON and NEW YORK and will report to UNIVERSAL MUSIC GROUP INTERNATIONAL COO MAX HOLE.
In addition to his global marketing duties, KRONFELD will also continue to run UMG's rock label SPINEFARM and UMG's alternative international licensing team at COOPERATIVE MUSIC.

KYOT Switches Formats In Phoenix
CLEAR CHANNEL R&B Oldies KYOT (95.5 The Coyote)/PHOENIX has apparently switched from a Smooth Jazz format to one which features Urban Oldies, which are very popular among Hispanics. It appears they have chosen the name “EVA” for the new format.
They will now go head-to-head with SIERRA BROADCASTING R&B Oldies KAJM (MEGA 104.3). The station had been running a contest in which contestants were being asked to come up with a name for the station.

A report on Hispanic media by the PEW RESEARCH CENTER's PROJECT FOR EXCELLENCE IN JOURNALISM notes the growth in Spanish-language radio in AMERICA as "in the last year, Spanish-language media tended to fare better overall than their mainstream English-language counterparts."
On radio, the report notes an 8% increase in Spanish-language stations to 1,323 but adds that only 96 of those are in News-Talk formats (up by three from the previous year). The ... more »

Charges Dropped Against Tracy Lawrence
Charges were dropped against Country artist TRACY LAWRENCE after a fight with concert promoter ELMER COLE Jr. (NET NEWS 8/9). Both LAWRENCE and COLE were charged with misdemeanors, after LAWRENCE’s bus got stuck in the mud.
The state requested the dismissal due to the fact “disorderly conduct could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt." The memorandum also said, “The statement is supported by (LAWRENCE's) physical injuries, which were greater than Mr. COLE’s and indicate an unexpected attack rather than mutual combat.” COLE still faces charges of disorderly conduct.

CITADEL Talk WLS-A/CHICAGO will continue as the CHICAGO affiliate for NOTRE DAME UNIVERSITY football and men's basketball, reports the CHICAGO TRIBUNE.
The deal is a three-year extension running through the 2013-14 men's basketball season. WLS will carry all football games and at least 25 men's basketball games plus postseason games.

The POST's characterization of BOSQUE COUNTY as a "backwater" drew derision from the DALLAS MORNING NEWS' BRUCE TOMASO, who joked that BECK will "saddle up his paint mare each morning at sunrise, pack some dried beef and corn-meal biscuits, and ride in from the backwater -- keeping a sharp eye peeled, of course, for rattlesnakes, stagecoach robbers and Comanche warriors."

CLEAR CHANNEL Country KXKT/OMAHA PD ERIK JOHNSON reports to ALL ACCESS that EMI RECORDS NASHVILLE artist ERIC CHURCH came to OMAHA recently to play two sold-out shows at HARRAH'S STIR CONCERT COVE. The SOCIETY OF LEADERS IN DEVELOPMENT (SOLID) kicked off the MUSIC ROW HABITAT FOR HUMANITY BUILD on SATURDAY (8/27) with 32 music industry volunteers lending their time to construct a new home in a north NASHVILLE community. The SOLID volunteers arrived to a concrete slab in NASHVILLE’s PARK PRESERVE and were able to get the frame of the house erected with walls and trusses in place.

THE INTERNATIONAL BLACK BROADCASTERS ASSOCIATION (IBBA) had to postpone its scheduled conference over the weekend at the ST. REGIS HOTEL in WASHINGTON DC, due to weather and atmospheric conditions. The combination of the earthquake and Hurricane Irene were simply too much to overcome.

PENNINGTON, part of the "KEVIN, VIRGINIA AND JASON SHOW," was notified last week that he is a match for JIM ROMANO, who has known JASON since the two were 12 years old. The two are partners in a rap group, "THE VALUE MEAL KILLAH AND THE SNACK PACK," and the band has been holding fundraising shows to help JIM pay for the procedure.
The surgery is scheduled for SEPTEMBER 29th.
