The Frugalista is not even going to mention the heat in Chicago today. You know it's hot. Now shake it off, cause we've got deals here.

The Frugalista was content with her family of five humans and two cats. Those two cats were a pretty recent addition and it took me a couple months to figure out the best ways to feed the pets without adding to our $100 weekly grocery budget. We weren't planning on any further additions to the household.

Since talking with Kristin from Couponing to Disney for my column about getting more coupons, I've been thinking about what kind of emails I could send to brands I use that would actually be fun to write. I feel like I would rather complain than compliment, because, hey, I'm a journalist and we only like bad news. Also, I have a feeling I would get...

As much as I love a good clearance sale, I'm sorry to report that 400 more Borders bookstore locations will now be liquidating. The Tribune is reporting that Borders can't find a buyer and is closing all its remaining stores, which will eliminate some 11,000 jobs.

Supermarket deals are seasonably mild in Chicago for the third week of July: a few good produce buys but nothing to leave the backyard sprinkler in order to grab. All these sales start Thursday, July 14, and end Wednesday July 20.

Recently two Frugalista columns in the Sunday Chicago Tribune addressed how to gather a lot of coupons, and how to build up that coupon pile legitimately. It's a topic that has come up a lot since the airing of the series Extreme Couponing, since many of the shoppers on the program are shown with stacks and stacks of newspaper inserts.
Today's best daily deals for families include half price at Totsy, Blooming Bows (hair accessories), Time Out Kids and Hobbitland.

Last week I overspent my $100 grocery budget by $26.26, so I was sorta hoping to stay under budget this week. I wasn't really counting on it though, since I had a birthday barbecue to shop for. So I wasn't too surprised to tally up my receipts and learn that this week, I again went over budget, spending $145.

Every year,back-to-school sales start right after the Fourth of July, and every year this takes me by surprise. My kids have only been out of school for four weeks! They are not getting ready to go back. But hey, cheap art supplies! Here are the best offers I see in the plastic bag inside the July 10 Sunday Chicago Tribune.

Megan just alerted me over on the Facebook Frugalista page that organic cherries are $2.99 at Whole Foods, today only. That rumbling sound you just heard was me rearranging today's schedule so I can get over there. Cherries are on the top end of the Environmental Working Group's list of most contaminated produce (No. 16), so I try to buy them...

The Frugalista ordered two dresses from Boden last week, and since they don't fit properly I have to add an run to the post office to my already busy schedule this week. That hassle put me off online shopping for today. So here are some deals you can redeem locally in Chicago:
