Rolls-Royce Ghost in beautiful detail

What can you say about a Rolls-Royce other than: Oh. My. God. I had this beautiful car for 2 days, and in that time I helped my sister move (check out the trunk shot), chauffeured my parents around Chicago, answered endless questions and did a show-and-tell at the office. Oh, and I took my boss to the airport, which I'm hoping won me huge bonus points. This is a stunningly hand-crafted luxury sedan with RR wheel caps that stay upright while the wheels rotate and plush carpet that rivals rugs in the best homes in Chicago. Which makes sense considering this car, at $302K, costs more than most condos and homes in the city.

So, other than, OMG, I figure you should take a look rather than have me tell you about it. Feel free to ask questions below, and enjoy the photo gallery.

From the front, the Ghost has a very striking (and intimidating) profile.

The attention to detail never ceased to amaze. Check out the RR etched in the headlight.

The Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament automatically retracts when you lock the doors. No stealing this lovely lady.

Behind the wheel gauges were clean and simple without being boring. The info center below the gauges displayed car info, temperature and radio station details.

I couldn't seem to get a good picture of this clock, but it's truly one of the most beautiful analog clocks I've ever seen in a car. Love the 3-D effect.

All you have to do is push the silver button above the umbrella, and it pops out for easy use.

I think this was my mother's favorite feature. An umbrella was embedded in both front doors.

A glimpse at the interior. Notice the suicide doors. This car is meant to have chauffeured passengers.

Check out the V-12 engine. Wow. 563 horsepower.

The around-view camera was one of my favorite features for tight Chicago spaces. It operates in forward and backward gears at low speeds. Very helpful in parking garages. Parked perfectly every time.

Ah. The austere side profile. It's a little unassuming until you see that front grille.
11ghost_14
And the trunk space. That green thing in the back is actually a 3-drawer storage chest. And look at all those shoes!
11ghost_12
Since the Ghost has suicide doors, the handles very prettily match up side-by-side.
11ghost_13
From behind, there's nothing overwhelmingly "rich" or impressive about the Ghost.
11ghost_15
The RR never rotates. Just a nice little touch. Even as wheels move, RR stays upright.

  • After the prior discussion about the radiator mascot, I asked my father why he was always talking about hood ornaments. He then said "I remember, it was when I owned a Mercury Sable, and everything went wrong on it, except the hood ornament, and that's because it didn't have one." I told him that since you said that the Rolls one was retractable, it could go wrong, too.

It also looks that since the umbrella is in the door, milady or her butler would have to get one's arm wet to reach it (at least from picture 6).

Also, despite the details etched in the headlights, I don't think the front looks right, after BMW shrunk the height of the headlights, but not the face of the car.

From the rear, you are also right. No different than a Honda Accord coupe or an old Ford.

Finally, with the tall high ends on all cars, all need backup cameras. I can't parallel park these days, and I doubt that most can't without tapping someone's bumper.

  • In reply to jack:

yeah ... back-up cameras are the new must. i had the chevrolet volt a couple weeks ago and was very disappointed that it didn't have one. especially since the back end was a bit quirky with the visibility. and with re. the umbrella, i think the point isn't that anyone in the backseat would grab it ... that's for the driver ... who's going to get wet anyway! :)
