Dr. Frerichs is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Epidemiology. He was founding Chair (1988-2001) of the Epidemiology Department when it changed in 1988 from a division in a single-department School of Public Health (SPH). He was also Chair of the SPH's Faculty Executive Committee for two terms (2002-2004 and 2006-2008). For further details on Professor Frerichs, click on "description" above. This site provides reference information for planning, conducting and analyzing rapid surveys. 

JOHN SNOW SITE

The intent of the John Snow site is to promote public health history among users of the internet and to demonstrate new methods for presenting educational information over the web.  While the site's subject resides in the past, the site itself focuses on the future, featuring sound, animation and detailed graphics.  The presentations are intended for broadband transmission, increasingly available in schools, offices and homes with cable, satellite, high-speed telephone, and wireless internet connections.

BIOTERRORISM SITE 

This site focuses on diseases of potential and actual terrorism, but from the perspective of public health epidemiologists. It features background information, links to appropriate agencies, and 1600+ journal and newspaper articles that offer interesting insights to the distribution, determinants and control of the various diseases, and effects on public policies.

ANTHRAX OUTBREAK SITE

An outbreak of intentionally-spread anthrax occurred in United States during the latter part of 2001, causing both cutaneous and inhalational anthrax and several deaths. This site provides clinical and epidemiologic details on many aspects of the anthrax field investigation, and descriptive overview graphs of onset times, used often by the discipline.

INTERNATIONAL CONTROVERSIES IN HIV CONTROL

The HIV/AIDS epidemic continues to devastate many regions of the world.  This site focuses primarily on Asia and presents controversies that have arisen in attempting to dealing with the rising HIV epidemic.  The presentations adhere to the public health mandate of protecting  susceptibles from becoming  infected, leaving to others the important medical mandate of treating and caring for HIV infected persons.  Included are discussions and publications on widespread testing, surveillance systems, normalization of infection, HIV reporting, partner notification, and home testing with saliva.
