The Center for Strategic and International Studies held a discussion on the future of offshore exploration and drilling of oil and natural gas. Opening remarks came from the director of the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management Michael Bromwich. Other speakers include Department of Energy official Christopher Smith and Charlie Williams, the chief scientist for Shell Oil. They spoke about the future of these industries in the wake of the Deepwater Horizon explosion which occurred last April. Recently, the Ocean Energy Safety Advisory Committee held its first public meeting to discuss its agenda, and to hear about the findings and recommendations of the recent investigation of last year’s BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill.
