On the news that the monthly jobs report showed that the economy added a mere 54,000 jobs last month, Rep. Sander Levin (D-MI), Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee, expressed concern about the sluggish recovery, but dismissed concerns about a double-dip recession.
On C‑SPAN’s Newsmakers, he said he is "disappointed in the House [of Representatives]" for doing little to create jobs. About the Republican-led House, Rep. Levin said, "The answer seems to be cut the deficit and this is somehow going to work miracles.”
He said unemployment compensation for those out of work is a necessary expenditure because it enables economic growth.
