Worship Plan for 2011

Last year we engaged in a spiritual journey as a congregation. We called it “The List,” and it was based on 100 Essential Scripture passages selected by Dr. William E. Hull. We focused on twelve of these in worship between Christmas and Easter and many of you participated in daily readings of all 100 passages.

 

This year we want to take a similar journey with another list. The Revised Common Lectionary is a list of Scripture passages that several denominational groups have selected for use in public and private worship. A three-year cycle (Years A, B, and C) are designed to introduce worshippers to Jesus and to the ministry of the church. Beginning with Advent, the Christian Year traces the life of Jesus and the calling of the church. Each week several Scripture passages have been selected for use in the church. We will be following this new “List,” or guide, from Advent, 2010 through Thanksgiving, 2011. Each week our Pastor will preach on one or more of the Scripture passages that are a part of this list. You are invited to read along in your private devotions with the other Bible readings for the week as we make this journey together. The outline of the Lectionary Scripture plan is a wonderful way for us to become familiar with our own understanding of God’s mission for our church.
