Curriculum

What is Curriculum?

What does it mean to know? How does one know? What should be taught? Why should it be taught? These questions are at the center of curriculum.  At Falk School, we keep these qustions in front of us as we create, implement, and revise curriculum. We view curriculum as an ever changing dynamic that is constructed between student and teacher. Each new school year becomes an opportunity to build upon what we have learned as teachers and students.

Falk's Point of View

Although we resist framing who we are by claiming philosophies and identifying with current trends, there are certain attributes that describe who we are: we see learning as engaging in real life activities with other people; we see problem solving and dilemma learning as important life skills; we feel it is best when learning is connected to other learning, texts to other texts, and content to other content; we feel that social responsibility and empathic learning are qualities that make up an educated person; we see both action and understanding as the goals of education; and we see assessment as a multi-faceted view of many demonstrations.

Each individual child is at the center of our curriculum. Who they are, what they are interested in, and what they need.
