Lollapalooza weekend will once again be bustling with club activity before and after the big outdoor shows Aug. 5-7 in Grant Park, this year with four nights of bonus concerts beginning Aug. 3.
Though there are no arena-sized headliners playing small clubs as in past years with Them Crooked Vultures and Phoenix, the after-parties announced Tuesday include some great options for those who can’t get enough music on Lollapalooza weekend or want to avoid the festival entirely.
Among the highlights: Titus Andronicus will bring its guitar-army roar to Reggies on Aug. 6, Death from Above 1979 will strafe Metro on Aug. 4, Swedish singer Lykke Li will headline House of Blues on Aug. 5, and British heavies the Arctic Monkeys will be joined by Chicago’s excellent Disappears at House of Blues on Aug. 6. Also highly recommended are Local Natives, who top the bill at Lincoln Hall on Aug. 5, rising British stars the Vaccines at Schubas on Aug. 5, and pop-rock trio Dom at Subterranean on Aug. 6.
Conspicuous by its absence is a Metro show on Aug. 6 -- let the rumors begin about what band may yet be booked in that prime slot during the busiest music weekend of the summer. Given Dave Grohl's history with Metro as a member of Nirvana, Queens of the Stone Age and now the Foo Fighters, who headline Lollapalooza Aug. 7, he is certain to be at the center of the after-show gossip in coming weeks.
Here’s a complete list of Lolla-sponsored shows (tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday HERE):

Lollapalooza will announce its schedule Tuesday and here’s how the headliners will shake down: Coldplay and Muse on Aug. 5, Eminem and My Morning Jacket on Aug. 6, and Foo Fighters and Deadmau5 on Aug. 7.

Single-day tickets ($90) also go on sale Tuesday, so concertgoers will now be able to choose which day to attend the three-day 20th anniversary festival in Grant Park. Three-day passes ($215) went on sale a few months ago and the lineup was announced in April.
In an effort to dissipate some of the massive crowds that have congregated near the main stage in recent years, Texas-based promoters C3 Presents will offer fans more options throughout the festival until closing time.

Coldplay, My Morning Jacket, Deadmau5 and A Perfect Circle will join previously reported headliners Eminem, Foo Fighters and Muse at Lollapalooza on Aug. 5-7 in Grant Park, the festival will announce Tuesday.
Also among the artists to be announced by Texas-based promoters C3 Presents are Cee Lo Green, Damian Marley with Nas, the Cars, Ween, Bright Eyes, Big Audio Dynamite, Girl Talk, Titus Andronicus, Deftones, Kid Cudi, Sleigh Bells and Arctic Monkeys.
The seventh annual festival will again feature more than 130 performers on eight stages.
As usual, the festival has only a smattering of hip-hop and world-music artists, though a handful of Chilean bands – Chico Trujillo, Los Bunkers and Ana Tijoux – have been booked as part of a cultural exchange with Lollapalooza Chile, which debuted April 2-3 in Santiago.

Lollapalooza will double the size of a stage devoted to DJs and electronic music at this year’s festival Aug 5-7 in Grant Park.
The plans were revealed in an interview with Charlie Jones, one of the partners of Texas-based promoters C3 Presents, who said the electronic-music area has proven to be the fastest growing musical attraction at the festival since Lollapalooza’s 2005 debut in Grant Park.
To accommodate the growth, the Perry’s Place stage will be moved to a softball field west of Columbus Avenue on the festival’s southern end across from Hutchinson Field, where the main stage is located. The tented Perry’s stage will be designed to accommodate more than 15,000 fans, double the size of last year’s location farther north.
The lineup for the festival will be announced Tuesday, but the Tribune has reported that Girl Talk has been booked for Lollapalooza, a likely headliner for the Perry’s Stage.
