I also help decipher complex legal topics for readers, from employment to discrimination to consumer affairs. I have a Tuesday column in the business section called "Chicago Law."

I started the legal beat in 2007, one of several business beats I have covered since joining the Chicago Tribune in 2000. Before joining the Tribune, I worked for the St. Petersburg Times in Florida, the Lexington Herald-Leader and the Poughkeepsie Journal. I have journalism degrees from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University.
