My Biography

I'm a 1994 graduate of Ohio University, and I worked at four newspapers in Ohio, Illinois, and Missouri before joining the Tribune in late 2009. Among articles I have written over the years: a nationwide failure to not only hunt fugitives, but breakdowns that let them walk away from police without arrest; abuse and neglect in a statewide mental health system that let alleged rapes go uninvestigated by police; and courts allowing special no-conviction probations for speeders caught going 100 mph or faster. In 2004, I was one of three reporters for the Toledo Blade who were awarded a Pulitzer Prize in investigative reporting for exposing how the Army covered up the longest-known string of war crimes committed by a battle unit in Vietnam.
