A thundery night sky provided Aucklanders with a spectacular light show last night.
The blustery weather brought heavy rain, lightning and roars of thunder.
Fire Service shift manager Jaron Phillips said a Remuera home had lost roof tiles in the storm.
Heavy winds also brought down some trees across roads.
Another Fire spokesperson said there had been reports of power lines coming down in some areas.
There were no reports of injuries.
The country is expected to be hit by more wild weather tonight, but the South Island and lower North Island are expected to bear the brunt of the storm.
A Sky Tower spokeswoman said the Sky Tower is often hit by lightning.
The structure is designed to conduct the electrical charge to the ground so there was no risk for the people inside.
