1. What is the name of the Bulgarian Royal House and how did this family gain the throne?
The name is Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha. In 1886 Prince Alexander of Battenberg was deposed and in 1887 Prince Ferdinand of Sachsen-Coburg-Gotha was elected Prince of Bulgaria. In 1908 Bulgaria was proclaimed an independant Kingdom and Ferdinand became its first King (Tsar). In 1946 King Simeon II was deposed and the monarchy was abolished.

4. Why are the Bulgarian Kings called Boris III and Simeon II? The country has only had three Kings.
Because Bulgaria has existed as an independant country twice before (679-1018 and 1186-1393). These old Kings are also counted when the regnal numbers have been decided.

5. Why are the Bulgarian Kings called Tsars?
Tsar was the Slavic name for the Bysantic Emperor, and it later became used as a title for the rulers in Russia, Serbia and Bulgaria.
