Chicago-area residents braced for a week of hot weather as the heat index reached 103 at the city’s downtown lakefront, with much of the Midwest beginning to bake under a hot air mass that has plagued the South in recent weeks. Rebekah Brooks, Rupert Murdoch's former British newspaper chief, was arrested on suspicion of phone hacking and bribing police, and the escalating scandal shaking Murdoch's global media empire also claimed the job of London's police chief. Chicago police officers previously assigned to administrative duties will be hitting the streets as part of a plan to deploy more police to needed areas, officials said today. |
