A 32-year-old man was shot and killed by a Snohomish County sheriff's deputy early Saturday after the man charged the deputy and threatened to kill him, authorities said.

The shooting happened on the 164th Street Southwest overpass across Interstate 5 in Lynnwood around 5:30 a.m.

The road was closed for several hours Saturday while police investigated.

According to Everett police, the deputy stopped on the overpass to talk to a pedestrian.

As the deputy got out of his patrol car, the man charged the deputy and threatened to kill him.

The two men fought, and at some point the deputy shot the man once in the torso, police said.

The man was taken to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he died. Members of his family identified him as Justin Gaswint, according to KOMO news.

The 25-year-old deputy, who has been with the Snohomish County Sheriff's Department for more than three years, is expected to be placed on paid administrative leave.

His name has not been released.

The Snohomish County Multiple Agency Response Team is investigating the shooting at the request of the sheriff's department.

The Everett Police Department is looking for witnesses to the shooting. Call 911 or the Everett Police Department tip line at 425-257-8450 to leave information.

This is the second officer-involved shooting by Snohomish County deputies in a week.

Last Sunday, a deputy shot a man inside a home near Bothell during a disturbance call. The man later died.
