Gay marriage a right-wing victory? Who knew?

I really got a kick out of this column by my famously conservative friend Jonah Goldberg. It reveals the hazards of believing his movement’s most preposterous propaganda.
As you may have noticed, conservatives have fought tooth and nail over the past, oh, four or five decades to block gays and lesbians from joining the military or getting legally married.
But now that polls show mainstream America coming around on these issues, Jonah manages to spin the trend into a triumph for –Guess what?—conservative values!

It's Saturday morning and, in case you're wondering, I'll blog in a little later with my full report on the Rally for Sanity and/or Fear. (Can't wait to take my pick on the choice.)

Metro trains are already filled with people carrying sings with messages like "Don't Back Up" and "This Sign is Heavy" and "I Thought There Would Be Cookies."

Christine O'Donnell: Evolution is a "myth"

CHRISTINE O'DONNELL WATCH Continues:

Delaware's Sarah Palin-backed Republican Senate nominee called evolution "a myth" on Bill Maher's Politically Incorrect back in the '90s.

What's revealing in this 17-second clip is her complete lack of intellectual curiosity. She asks "why aren't monkeys still evolving" as if the question is enough -- as if no pursuit of the scientific answer matters.

One can only imagine what SENATOR O'Donnell's votes on science research funding and education policy would bbe.

Christine O'Donnell Wars: Wicca strike back

CHRISTINE O'DONNELL WITCH WATCH:

It had to happen. Now the Wiccans are upset with Christine O’Donnell, Delaware’s Republican nominee for Senate and, as Bill Maher might put it, Sarah Palin’s nicer clone.
Maher unearthed a 1999 video from his old show "Politically Incorrect," in which she acknowledged that she had "dabbled into witchcraft," including a "midnight picnic" with a guy "on a Satanic alter," but "never joined a coven.”
After she said that, a lot of stuff hit the proverbial fan.
O'Donnell abruptly went underground, following the same damage-control pattern as several other problematic Tea Party candidates. She canceled all weekend broadcast interviews, perhaps to spend a little time in candidate spin school.
She did, however, make a speech to fellow Republicans at a GOP picnic in Delaware Sunday in which she made light of her witchy-womanly days.

Beck's big Bible revival meeting

Maybe he wants to be "Reverend Beck?"

“Something beyond imagination is happening,” the radio and Fox News host preached to a crowd of, well, a whole lot of people at the Lincoln Memorial. “America today begins to turn back to God.”

Well, that's a relief.

Glenn Beck's un-civil rights

As George Orwell might say, up is down, day is night, bad is good and Glenn Beck is calling himself a civil rights leader.

Beck says his Saturday rally at the LIncoln Memorial-- a rally that just so happens to fall on the 47th anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King's speech on the very same spot (Mere coincidence, Beck insists -- is his effort to "reclaim the civil rights movement" and "pick up Martin Luther King's dream." Right.

Glenn Beck claiming to promote Dr. King's dream is like Lindsay Lohan claiming to be spokesmodel for Alcoholics Anonymous.

Ron Paul joins mosque-teers

Rep. Ron Paul, a spiritual godfather of the Tea Party movement, has weighed in on the controversial proposed mosque and community center near Ground Zero and, wonder of wonders, he says nothing with which I disagree.
Quite the opposite, every line of his blog post here makes me want to stand up and cheer.
I had hoped the independent-minded Texas Republican congressman would remain true to his fierce support for the Constitution, property rights, individual liberty and religious freedoms – plus his opposition to neoconservative saber-rattling—and he does not disappoint.

Breitbart vs. Mike Tyson ... er, Dyson!

A blast from the past, gang: On the March 16, 2009, cablecast of HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, Michael Eric Dyson and Andrew ("I'm Not a Republican") Breitbart try to school each other on the truth about racial code words, "the black studies crowd" and Rush Limbaugh's hangup about black men who have power ---- besides Clarence Thomas. Guess who wins?

Re: The running Stewart-Goldberg debate. At least Jon Stewart was not simply preaching to the choir with his Dick Cheney-style "Go F*** Yourself" opus. He's got the choir preaching with him, too.

Ugly Tea Party echoes bad old days

On President Obama’s election night, I wondered whether the Rev. Jesse Jackson was weeping tears of joy or crying because he was out of a job?” Who’s crying now?

This YouTube video catches the Country Preacher in a happier moment, facing jeering conservative protesters at the Capitol while his son, Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr., presides over passage of the historic House health care bill vote inside.

Too bad that, despite the ubiquitous presence of video cameras these days, I have yet to see any video of the abuse that several black congressmen and Rep. Barney Frank (D., Mass.) received Saturday, according to news reports like this one.

Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), a hero of the civil rights movement, was called the N-word for black people by an unknown heckler and Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) was called the F-word for gay people as they passed between buildings during the vote, according to reports. Frank, who has heard worse, shrugged it off. So did Lewis, a hero of the civil rights movements who still bears physical injuries from voting rights protests in Selma, Ala., in the 1960s.
