Special Needs

First Baptist Church is committed to ministering to every one of God's children.  Below you will find information about the Special Needs Ministry at First Baptist.

Building Accessibility
Restrooms meeting ADA requirements are available on the 1st and 2nd floors near the elevator.  On the 2nd floor, there is also a family restroom near the elevator. Additional restrooms are available on the 2nd floor near the Sanctuary.

Our Sanctuary is completely wheelchair accessible.  We have wheelchairs available for those who need assistance for worship. Please see the ushers at the doors for this help.

Worship Enhancement
Large print Hymnals and Orders of Worship are available for those who may need them. We also have hearing devices available upon request from the Ushers.

ASL (American Sign Language) is available upon request. If you need more information about this or are qualified to assist with this ministry, please e-mail joy@fbchsv.org.

Special Needs Adults Sunday Morning Bible Study
Meeting in the First Baptist Church Annex Building (off the East Parking Lot) is our Sunday Morning Bible Study Class for Special Adults. Some of these members have grown up at our church and have been a part of our Sunday School for 30 years. Supported and taught by caring church members, this department is a vital weekly part of the Sunday Morning Bible Study Ministry.

Transportation can be provided upon request for this class. The transportation is provided in a church mini-bus with wheelchair capabilities and is driven by qualified drivers from our congregation. For more information about the class or to request transportation, e-mail joy@fbchsv.org. More details are also provided on the Special Needs Adults Sunday Morning Bible Study Class page.

Buddy Ministry
This ministry is for children and youth who have difficulty with transitions, a learning disability, developmental delay, vision or hearing difficulty, a physical disability, a medical condition, behavior difficulties, with mental retardation or who need special equipment. It is available during Sunday Morning Bible Study and other church activities, person-centered, individualized, flexible, compassionate and loving, accepting of differences.

The purpose of the Buddy Ministry is to provide the assistance necessary to enable all children and youth to learn about God's love and grow in faith.

If you have a child or know a child who needs special help while at church and would like more information, contact the Childhood Ministries Office at 256-428-9411 or Joy Moore, joy@fbchsv.org. You may also complete the Buddy Ministry Child and Youth Information Card and return it to the Childhood Ministries Office.

SMART
Special Maintenance And Repair Team is a group of members who are available to help with maintenance, building of wheelchair ramps, and minor repairs at homes of members. If you are interested in serving on this committee or are needing this kind of assistance, please contact Hunter Hoskins.
