This weekend The Frugalista realized something. I had forgotten to pack enough clothes for my 4-year-old's visit to her Grammy and Grampy in Wisconsin. No worries! The next morning was Saturday and Kenosha, Wis., is like a rummage sailer's paradise.

Today is the first day of summer, and like anything else, marketers have turned it into an excuse for promotions. That's awesome, because look, free stuff:

On the front of today's Sunday Chicago Tribune, there should be a sticker for a free 24 oz. iced tea at Dunkin' Donuts. I am loving all these freebie stickers on the paper! This is the best one so far, in my opinion. Another highlight this week: Up to a dozen bottles of Vaseline Sheer Infusion lotion from Menards, free after mail-in rebate. And CVS has lots of freebies. Here's a rundown of the rest of the deals and coupons you'll find in the June 19 Sunday Chicago Tribune:

This week I spent $148.31 on groceries, more than my $100 weekly budget. However, I am planning to send in for a $50 mail-in rebate that should bring this week back in line when I receive it.

This week many of the summer kids' movie series around Chicago are starting. These things can be a great way to kill a hot summer morning in air conditioned comfort for just a buck or two, and introduce little ones to the movie theater experience without the risk of ticking off adults who paid $9 to be there. They are often paired with snack deals -- in case you want your kids drinking pop and eating candy at 10 in the morning.

This week's Frugalista column in the Sunday Chicago Tribune was about saving money taking the family to a ball game. I got some great tips from Jon Greenberg, who puts together the Fan Cost Index comparing which stadiums are most expensive (The Cubs are No. 3 and White Sox are No. 4 most expensive.
