Beer and wine can mix

June 10, 2011|By Ross Werland | Tribune Newspapers

The 1892 Pabst Mansion, where Milwaukee beer baron Frederick Pabst hung his hat for the 12 years he was able to enjoy the place before he died, is open for regular tours. But from 6 to 8 p.m. June 17, you can sip wine while enjoying the elegance of one of the city’s architectural jewels. And if you look around, you get the idea that old Capt. Pabst may have been a beer man in public, but the guy had to be drinking wine in the regal digs at home. This is part of a series of wine tastings. For nonmembers, which you must be if you don’t know about these, the tickets are $30 and can be purchased at the mansion, by phone (414-931-0808) or online (www.tinyurl.com/3vbcqgr, where they are $5 cheaper). The Pabst, 2000 W. Wisconsin Ave., is a great stop in a city of many. Cheers.
