(June 17)—Two exhibits were launched by the Office of the Chancellor through the Office for Initiatives in Culture and the Arts (OICA) for the University of the Philippines’ 103rd Foundation Day on June 18, at the Bulwagan ng Dangal (BnD), the University Heritage Museum: Sulyap sa Baro at Saya: Silayan ang Saya de Kola and Rizal at UP: The Exhibition.
Filpiniana fashion on display. Sulyap is for anyone who’s ever wondered how the iconic baro’t-saya evolved from a relatively simple design in the late 1920s to become the epitome of Filipiniana fashion it is today.

UPD welcomes the freshmen
Freshie 2011
(June 16)--UP Diliman rolled out the red carpet for its newest and youngest constituents at the Freshman Welcome Assembly on June 14, the first day of classes for Academic Year 2011-2012 at the University Theater.
A yearly tradition organized by the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (OVCSA), the program is a getting-to-know-you of sorts, where officials of the UP System and UP Diliman are introduced to the newest students, and deans of the degree granting units introduce their newest constituents to the administration officials. The program likewise features a number of the best cultural performers on campus.

Law and Science have new deans
Dr. José Maria P. Balmaceda
(June 10)—Two new deans were appointed for UPD last June 7 as Dr. José Maria P. Balmaceda and Prof. Danilo L. Concepcion took their oaths as deans of the College of Science (CS) and College of Law (CL), respectively.
Balmaceda takes over for now Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs Ronald S. Banzon, who was appointed CS OIC when UPD ChancellorCaesar A. Salomawas elected to the chancellorship earlier this year. Read more

Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
Dr. Ronald S. Banzon is Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs (VCAA). His first order of business is to upgrade basic office equipment at the OVCAA and associated offices at the Diliman Interactive Learning Center, explaining that the resulting enhanced working environment is expected to increase the efficiency of the office.Read more

Vice Chancellor for Research and Development
As the new Vice Chancellor for Research and Development, Dr. Benito M. Pacheco commits to build upon the successes of the past administrations and learn from the challenges they faced. He intends to operationalize OVCRD’s main functions and responsibilities using a 3-pronged approach.Read more

Ma. Corazón Jimenez-Tan
Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs
Professor Ma. Corazón Jimenez-Tan is the new Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. Her priority is the conduct of consultations with the University Student Council, dormitory residents and student organizations to collectively design, implement, monitor and evaluate OVCSA programs. Read more

Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs
Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs Melania L. Abad plans to strengthen the capability and integrity of the OVCCA offices, and create an enabling physical and psychological environment for all students, employees and residents of UPD. Read more
CS College Sec is the new University Registrar
Dr. Evangeline C. Amor, College Secretary of the College of Science (CS) for the past five years, was appointed by Chancellor Caesar A. Saloma as University Registrar on May 3.Read more
UP Diliman Chancellor in “Ultimate List of 15 Asian Scientists to Watch”
Chancellor C. Saloma
Physicist and UP Diliman (UPD) Chancellor Caesar A. Saloma this May 15 was named by the magazine Asian Scientist as among the ultimate 15 Asian scientists to watch.
Saloma is the lone Filipino to make the list composed of three scientists each from Japan and India, two scientists each from China, Singapore and Korea and one each from Taiwan and Pakistan.
