Summer to-do list
The recent weather has only helped build the feeling of anticipation. It's almost tangible. It's just about time to do all the wonderful things -- Chicago summer things -- that can be enjoyed only in our fair city and only when the temperature rises. In case you've forgotten what so many of those are, On The Town brings you a list of summertime must-dos to kick off
our summer preview trilogy. This week, an assortment of fun. Next week:
theater; and the week after that, music. Ready. Set. It's go time.

Go north, young man
Trek to Milwaukee: Yes, Milwaukee. The Milwaukee Art Museum is an amazing place, not just because of the Santiago Calatrava-designed building, complete with gull wings. This institution has a small but mighty permanent collection of well-chosen pieces, and a glorious assemblage of German Expressionist paintings and drawings. It's easy to get to as well, and exists in a beautiful setting. We'd choose a nice, sunny day, when the odds of having the wings deployed is higher. The MAM's "Summer of China" begins June 11, featuring a series of special exhibitions of Chinese art and culture. 700 N. Art Museum Drive, Milwaukee. $14 ($12 for students, seniors and active military; free for children younger than 12); 414-224-3200 or mam.org

Really? The first item on a list of things to do in Chicago is "Go to Milwaukee"? Really?
