USBL TARGETING APRIL TIP-OFF
January 12, 2010 By USBLThe United States Basketball League is targeting the 2010 season for its return to the hardwood. Talks with potential franchise owners have progressed and the league that began twenty-five years ago as the “League of Opportunity” is energized about scheduling another year of USBL action.
Following a lay-off during the recent economic downturn, the restructuring process that began two years ago is near completion. Negotiations with prior teams and expansion franchises are merging towards an expected tip-off in mid to late April of this year. As a result, the league that has “graduated” more than 150 players to the NBA expects the upcoming season will offer its fans an exciting slate of games featuring the next generation of aspiring basketball players and coaches.
Although the league is beginning to finalize its 2010 plans, USBL Commissioner Daniel Meisenheimer, III, remains focused on expanding the league as efficiently and economically as possible.
“We will continue to speak with potential business partners and community officials to develop expansion of the league in 2010 and beyond,” states Meisenheimer. “Our main concern is attracting the right type of owners in the right markets and venues to sustain our growth.” As the season nears, the USBL will also be working to establish corporate partnerships.
