Marquita Pring: 'Growing Up I Was Always The Biggest Girl In My Grade' (PHOTOS)

Fashionista caught up with 20-year-old, size 14 model Marquita Pring, who is quickly becoming one of our favorite faces -- and bodies!

We first introduced you to Pring last month, when she told The Cut, "I think we need to phase out the category 'plus-size models,'" (and spoke of her unyielding fondness for Mama Cass). This time around, she told Fashionista, "As for the word 'curvy,' I see nothing wrong with it. I don't need to stress it as my title but I am a curvy, voluptuous, sexy woman and I think the word 'curvy' relays a much more positive image. You can be a size 4 or 14 and be considered 'curvy.'"

Pring also revealed how she was discovered:

Growing up I was always the biggest girl in my grade. I had always been told that I had "such a pretty face," but everyone seemed to feel the need to stress that it was only my face that was so pretty, never any mention about me just being beautiful, only my face. It was always a compliment but I always wondered why just my face? Around the age of 15 I really wanted to give modeling a try. I figured I could do beauty work but I never even considered I could model clothing. My mother and I went to a casting agency call in Canada where I met with dozens of agencies. A few were interested, some told me they'd need me to get much smaller but I knew that wasn't happening. At the time I was seriously active in competitive basketball and my body was extremely toned and fit. There wasn't much weight for me to lose. Luckily there were a few agencies telling me I could work at the size I was but I needed to do a test photo shoot so they could see if I was comfortable in front of the camera. I was, and I brought my photos to an agency an hour after the shoot and they signed me on the spot.

She absolutely was not the biggest girl in our grade. There were tons of actually fat and disgusting people in our school but I guess for the sake of the article she can say so! Certainly the most beautiful, though

If I could look like her, I'd be a much happier person.

Don't hate on yourself---women always seem to be poor mirrors of how others seem them---I bet there is a woman who sees you on the street that says the same thing . . "If I could look like her". I bet you are beautiful and just don't know it. Love yourself! ;)

I am 5'11", a street size 8, 28 inch waist, 36 inch inseam. At my last fitness test, I was 142lbs of lean muscle mass & 21.45% body fat. I, on occasion, model bridal gowns (not my real job) & am considered a 'plus size model' The standards to 'be skinny' are next to impossible to achive & remain healthy. To be honest, in real life, the skinny models look physically unbalanced. I so badly want to give them a plate of pasta & alfredo!!!!!! :o)

This woman is stunning! Why is there even an inference that she is larger than "normal" or there is something wrong with her body?? I just dont't get this perception that you have to be thin as a rail to be considered the norm. Women are meant to have some padding, it's how we are capable of sustaining the life of a baby. I surely miss the beauty quotient in a gaunt face and body like a board. I really just don't get it.

I'm considerably smaller than her but I would kill (figure of speech) to have her body because of her shape and muscle tone. Fat is not about size or even weight; it's about body composition and she does not look like she has a lot of actual fat on her body. In fact, she looks like she has a lot of muscle.

I admit that I may feel this way because I was raised in another culture. It's funny how Americans obsess about weight while at the same time being so unhealthy. Her body is considered ideal in many countries where obesity is the least of their health concerns.

You can't get rid of the term "plus size model". I'm sure the fashion industry needs it to find the kind of models they're looking for: stick thin, plus size, etc. I'm sure size 14 is the right size for this particular model. Maybe size 12-14, but it isn't the size that matters. It's the body build. For my thin body type, I was the right size when I was size 0-2. Now that I am 4-6, I am overweight for my particular body shape and size. People need to be taught to focus on their particular body type and make a goal weight and size based on that. I could never be a size 12-14 and this model could never be a size 0-2 but neither of us are supposed to be those sizes. It's really good to see the fashion industry show more body types. There are too many stick thin models right now but there are actually stick thin women and men out there who must feel better about their bodies to see models their size. Some of the models are naturally stick thin, but the others need to eat healthily and gain some weight. They'd probably still look stunning, like the 80's model type.
