'Waiting for the end of the world': Celebrating doomsday in song

If you're a believer in such things, chances are you’re wondering what to listen to when the world crumbles on Saturday – which will totally put a damper on your evening plans. Just in case radio preacher Harold Camping, who has predicted that the world as we know it will end on Saturday, is on to something, here are a few songs celebrating the sweet finale of this thing called Earth.

In case we all make it through, Pop & Hiss plans on recycling this list a little closer to 2012, when the world is also predicated to end. And no, R.E.M.’s "It's The End of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)" and Blondie’s “Rapture” aren't on this list, and since Prince has yet to change the lyrics of “1999” to “2011,” it’s also getting snubbed.

In no way is this list comprehensive, and feel free to add other ideas in the comments (we just don’t recommend wasting precious hours of the last day on the planet crafting a list of songs).

“Final Day” --  Young Marble Giants
“And the world lights up / for the final day / We will all be poor / Having had our say”

“Waiting For the End of The World” -Elvis Costello
“Waiting for the end of the world / Dear Lord I sincerely hope you're coming / cause you really started something”

“Till the World Ends” – Britney Spears
“See the sunlight, we ain’t stopping / keep on dancing till the world ends / If you feel it, let it happen /
Keep on dancing till the world ends”

“Thriller” Michael Jackson
“Night creatures calling, the dead start to walk in their masquerade / there’s no escaping the jaws of the alien this time / They're open wide / This is the end of your life”

"The Apocalypse Song " - St. Vincent
“So take to the streets with apocalypse refrain / your devotion has the look of a lunatic's gaze”

Well, we're finally here. I haven't seen anyone go missing yet. Unless Macho Man was the rapture first draft pick.
Poll: Will the rapture begin on 5/21/2011?

willie nelson's 'nothing i can do about it now'...

From “88 reasons why the world will end in 1988″ to the Jehovah Witness’s numerous failed prophecies, to all of Hal Lindsay’s “Late Great Planet Earth” mush……………Not to mention the hundreds of incorrect ‘end is near’ prophecies since 30AD. This Saturday May 21st will likely add it’s name to the ranks of a long list of incorrect End times prophecies. (Which are mostly based on OT scripture meant for another time and place, but that’s just my opinion)

Might as well get a “Rapture Vet” shirt….hahaha
