Barry Bonds found guilty of obstruction of justice; mistrial declared on three other counts

Barry Bonds found guilty of obstruction of justice Home run king Barry Bonds has been found guilty of obstruction of justice for impeding a grand jury from moving forward with an investigation of performance-enhancing drugs, a federal jury decided Wednesday.

The three-week trial of the former San Francisco Giant followed the 2003 grand jury investigation into illegal distribution of steroids. He had denied under oath that he knowingly used steroids or human growth hormones and said that he was never injected with the drugs by personal trainer Greg Anderson, L.A. Now reported.

A San Francisco jury of eight women and four men, which has been deliberating since Friday, heard testimony from Anderson, Bonds' girlfriend of nine years Kimberly Bell, his former childhood friend and estranged business partner Steve Hoskins and his younger sister Kathy Hoskins.

The judge declared a mistrial on the three other felony counts of making false statements to a grand jury. Each count carried a possible maximum sentence of 10 years. However, federal sentencing guidelines recommend 15 to 21 months in prison for a conviction, according to L.A. Now.

The conviction could delay the former Giant's induction into the baseball Hall of Fame.

Charlie Sheen: Are we witnessing the crash in 'Sheen's Korner'?

Charlie Sheen on UStream in "Sheen's Korner" Charlie Sheen has his "Sheen's Korner" webcast in heavy production on UStream, and the results ain't pretty. Actually, things got downright disturbing with the Monday night installment.

Looking gaunt and generally creepy, the actor who was fired from "Two and a Half Men" earlier in the day made only shreds of sense during the brief webcast.

For example: "If you own the home in which you own the trash can, you should never have to empty it ever, ever, ever again."

Recycling recent catch phrases ("Winning!" "Duh!") and acting out the title of his imagined autobiography ("Apocalypse Me: The Jaws of Life -- Everybody Wins!"), Sheen suggested he get paid product-placement sponsorship money, tore at his hair and moved in and out of frame.

If anyone was going to find a way to sink further after wielding a machete and drinking "Tiger Blood" on the Live Nation rooftop in Beverly Hills on Monday, after proclaiming to paparrazzi that he was "free at last," we suppose it was going to be Sheen (see the video below). Nice move from a guy accused of threatening his wife with a knife -- but who are we to judge, right?

There's really no good way to accurately describe what went down on UStream; if you can handle the profanity and apparent insanity, see the video here.

Meanwhile, Fox's "House M.D." got in on the Sheen action Monday night with a scene riffing off "Two and a Half Men," featuring Hugh Laurie in one of those "ugly shirts" and taking on Charlie's bad-boy persona while encouraging lawbreaking and decadence from his girlfriend's young daughter.

Miley Cyrus -- as Justin Bieber -- says salvia is LEGAL on SNL's 'The Miley Cyrus Show'

Miley Cyrus let herself be spoofed on "Saturday Night Live" this past weekend on the recurring "The Miley Cyrus Show" sketch -- but she posed as Justin Bieber while doing it.

Cyrus, who hosted the variety show Saturday by singing her monologue and pretending to be Lindsay Lohan, let the writers poke fun at her in stride as they took on her semi-nude Annie Leibovitz photos, Disney grooming roots and that bong-smoking scandal.

"She was up for anything," cast member Kristen Wiig told MTV News. "That's always, to me, what makes a host fun to have around. They'll make fun of themselves or how the media perceives them. She was up for anything, which was so great."

But Lohan didn't seem to think so. The embattled actress even wrote a letter to "SNL" creator Lorne Michaels because she was upset the show allowed Cyrus to tease her. (What a poor sport. Can't one child star make fun of another?)

The highlight, however, was Cyrus dressed up as an eye-shadow-wearing Bieber on "The Miley Cyrus Show" segment opposite Vanessa Bayer.

"It's a Mexican standoff if the Mexicans were tiny, talented geniuses," Jason Sudeikis said in character as always-doting daddy Billy Ray Cyrus.

Bayer, an "SNL" newbie, all-too-convincingly mimicked Cyrus' toothy smile and loud, nasal voice to blood-curdling annoyance levels. And Cyrus effectively parodied Bieber's hair flips, crotch grabs and ultra-laid-back interview style.

Here's some of what they did (CAPS added for blood-curdling emphasis):

Fake Miley: WAIT A MINUTE, JUSTIN BIEBER, DID YOU CUT YOUR HAIR?

Real Miley as the Biebs: Yeah, you know, it's an image change. I also do the middle finger now.

Fake Miley: SO YOU'RE GROWING UP. LIKE ME ... DOING SALVIA! DID YOU KNOW I SMOKED SALVIA?

Real Miley as the Biebs: You know, there's no reason why you wouldn't. Because it's TOTALLY LEGAL, YO!

Point made, Miley. Point made.

Charlie Sheen gives advice: Stay off the crack, unless you can manage it socially

Charlie Sheen says don't do crack. Charlie Sheen had some words of advice Monday: "Don't do crack, drink chocolate milk."

"Don't do crack" was a recurring theme in his nearly half-hour sports-talk radio interview with "The Dan Patrick Show," during which Sheen described the current "Two and a Half Men" hiatus as "forced" and declared himself "peeing clean" and ready to work.

In good spirits after noting that his voice sounded "like Demi Moore in her 80s, what's up with that?" Sheen cracked wise through most of the interview.

"If I'm not a 'Got Milk?' campaign right now -- stay away from the crack, drink chocolate milk," he said, invoking the beverage he was quaffing when he gave a pep talk to the UCLA baseball team Thursday after hitting a few balls with them in batting practice.

"People kind of know that I've had some problems lately," he said, so with little time to prepare his message to the guys, "... I said, stay away from the crack.

"Which I think is pretty good advice, unless you can manage it socially, Dan. If you can manage it socially, then go for it. But not a lot of people can."

Sheen admitted his own attempts to be a social crack user "kind of blew up in my face. Like an exploding crack pipe, Dan."

The actor reportedly has an addiction team assembled to work with him at home.

Patrick had to ask: How long has Sheen been sober?

"I've been off -- well, I don't use 'sober' anymore, I'm not in AA, I don't believe in it. ... It's hard to say, 'cause then you got people arguing the disease model, and the alcoholic model -- these guys, sober 20 years, [who say] 'I'm an alcoholic.' 'Bro, you haven't had a drink in two decades. What are you talking about?' "

Miley Cyrus to take a deep breath and host 'SNL'

Miley Cyrus at the Never Say Never premiere Miley Cyrus has signed up to host "Saturday Night Live," and the Ministry wants to know: Will the "SNL" writers be free to write bong jokes? Or is that, like, pretty uncool?

People didn't mention whether the March 5 monologue would mention salvia but did confirm that there will be a separate musical guest who is not Miley Cyrus — possibly freeing her up to also make an appearance on "SNL's" "The Miley Cyrus Show," a sketch that mocks, well, Miley Cyrus.

The whole salvia-bong thing back in December, though legal and not radically unusual, was a mistake, she told Marie Claire recently. "I'm disappointed in myself for disappointing my fans," Cyrus said, noting that in contrast to many others her age who might consider salvia smoking no big deal, she's a role model.

"So for me it was a bad decision, because of my fans and because of what I stand for."

What she stands for, the Ministry has divined, includes no vampires, no Twitter, no more "Hannah Montana," no problem dating a costar, no hassle from your parents (at least most of the time), no underpants, no more good girl and no bra when meeting the queen — though, oddly, yes to cadmium and yes to international beer — all positions clearly at odds with bong smoking.

Miley fans who can't yet stay up late enough to watch "SNL" can see their idol sing with Justin Bieber at Madison Square Garden in "Never Say Never," the just-opened 3-D movie of his life.

Charlie Sheen out of the hospital, recovering from laughing too hard?

Charlie Sheen home from the hospital Charlie Sheen left the hospital Thursday night and plans to be back at work on "Two and a Half Men" on Tuesday, his publicist said Friday.

Sheen slipped out around 10 p.m., according to "Extra," which also cited a friend who said Sheen's abdominal pain was from a hernia that worsened when he was laughing too hard at the TV.

While watching his own show, perhaps? Not if you listen to a TMZ source who said Sheen was in his theater room offering his expert critiques of porn for hours before a 911 call was made -- reportedly by neighbor Dr. Paul Nassif, husband of "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Adrienne Malouf-Nassif.

(Nassif is the plastic surgeon who got involved after a drunken man allegedly got into it with "Housewives" Lisa Vanderpump and friends at the Polo Lounge on Christmas Eve.)

Porn actress Kacey Jordan gave TMZ a video interview alleging heavy drinking, a drug delivery, drug use and an epic porn collection. She said she eventually left the house because "I couldn't keep up" with the party.

Sheen has denied drugs were involved.

Sources close to the show told the Hollywood Reporter earlier this week that Warner Bros. Television execs are looking for an opportunity to send their $2-million-an-episode star to rehab.

"They are all afraid Charlie will end up dead," a talent rep told THR. "It is literally day by day."

Sound familiar? Back in November, Sheen's manager denied the actor had any plans to die after an alleged hookers-and-blow binge, and said he'd busted in on the bad boy while Sheen was eating a turkey sandwich and asking for the next "Men" script.

In late October, Sheen had what his camp called an "adverse allegic reaction" to prescription medication after being spotted quaffing wine with porn actresses at dinner in New York. He was hospitalized for a psych evaluation after his Plaza Hotel room was trashed and porn actress Capri Anderson called for help from his bathroom.

Sheen is the highest-paid actor on television, and "Two and an Half Men" is consistently among the highest-rated shows. Sheen has two daughters with ex-wife Denise Richards, and twin boys with estranged wife Brooke Mueller, the other party in a Christmas 2009 domestic violence incident that landed the actor in an Aspen, Colo., jail.

Though Richards was spotted at the hospital, Mueller wasn't. "I'm not going to the hospital," she told X17Online on Thursday. "Charlie's doing good."

Sheen filed for divorce from Mueller on Nov. 1. He made an unsteady, vulgar, surprise appearance at a taping of "Drew Carey's Improv-a-ganza" in Las Vegas earlier this month.

Montel Williams busted for drug pipe at airport security

Montel Williams busted with pot pipe Montel Williams was cited and fined for possesion of drug paraphernalia Tuesday after he was found carrying a marijuana pipe as he went through an airport security checkpoint in Wisconsin.

The former talk-show host, 54, was popped at General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee, the county sheriff's department said.

Williams, a medical marijuana proponent who supports use of the drug to relieve symptoms of conditions including multiple sclerosis, was released and continued his travel plans after paying a $484 fine, the sheriff's department said.

And here we thought it was expensive to get caught carrying an extra suitcase?

An MS sufferer himself, Williams was diagnosed with the chronic neurological condition — which in his case manifests in part as numbness in his feet, weakness in his left leg and balance problems — in 1999, after experiencing symptoms for 20 years.

He founded the Montel Williams MS Foundation in 2000 to help further research into the disease.

Who's the Miley Cyrus bong video villain? Some say Anna Oliver [poll]

Miley-cyrus-anna-oliver

Every story needs a villain -- and in the story of the Miley Cyrus bong video, fans seem to think the villain is one Anna Oliver.

Oliver, a close friend of the "Hannah Montana" star, is allegedly the buddy who captured Miley's salvia-smoking ways for posterity -- and some Cyrus fans now blame her for the video going public. A female voice can be heard at the start of the recording saying, "I'm going to document the [heck] out of this."

TMZ, which first posted the video, reports that Oliver has deactivated her Twitter account and gone into hiding after a barrage of messages along the lines of, "What would you do if you met Anna Oliver? -- Probably kick her teeth in."

Oliver is also a friend of recently derailed Disney star Demi Lovato, who posted a Flickr picture of them together in February with the caption ""BESTIESSSSSS - @AnnaCOliver."

Report: Salvia sales up after Miley Cyrus bong-smoking video

Miley-cyrus-white-dress In the wake of a video showing Miley Cyrus smoking a bong, sales of salvia divinorum jumped at some Los Angeles-area head shops, according to TMZ, which spoke to several of the legal outlets over the weekend.

Sources told the website Friday that the just-turned-18-year-old was not smoking pot, but rather the hallucinogenic salvia, which is legal to possess in California, though illegal to sell to minors.

The inexpensive herb, also known as "Magic Mint" or "Sally-D," can cause hallucinations "innocent and quaint" or "frightening and nauseating," according to WebMD.

Anthony Adams, the onetime state assemblyman who tried to get salvia classified as a controlled substance in 2007, told TMZ on Saturday that it was irresponsible of the "Hannah Montana" star to  experiment with the herb -- not to mention let a friend document it -- because it can make a person do "incredibly crazy things."

"Miley is a star," Adams said, "and young kids are going to emulate her behavior."

Looks like he was right: Some customers over the weekend were asking for "the stuff Miley was smoking," TMZ said.

See, she really is a role model.

So that's Miley Cyrus bong-smoking salvia -- and what is salvia, exactly?

Salvia Miley Cyrus bong smoking A Miley Cyrus bong-smoking video reportedly showing her smoking salvia sparked up a lot of interest Friday -- and also raised the question, what is salvia? What are salvia's effects?

Literally, it was a question: "What the [gosh darn] is salvia?!," a friend of the Ministry asked. "And I thought I knew all controlled substances."

More properly known as Salvia divinorum, the herb is "an old psychedelic drug with new appeal," The Times' Health team reported in 2008, when the California legislature was deciding who should be able to buy the type of sage.

Currently, the herb is illegal in a number of states, but not regulated federally as a controlled substance. So the friend of the Ministry need not feel so bad.

Salvia effects From Health reporter Shari Roan's article:

Salvia divinorum is an inauspicious-looking member of the mint family and is one of many species of salvia, also known as sage, some of which are common garden plants in hot, dry climates. (Salvia divinorum itself is not a popular garden plant because it is not considered decorative.) Salvia divinorum contains a chemical, salvinorin A, that causes hallucinations. The dried leaves or concentrated extract, which is often sold as incense, are smoked or chewed and produce a high lasting from less than a minute to about a half-hour. Users report distorted senses, an out-of-body feeling and losing control over their body movements.

Some websites promoting salvia warn users to take the drug in the presence of a sober person who can help if a user loses body control or behaves erratically. Numerous users have placed clips on YouTube of themselves or others laughing hysterically or staggering around while high on salvia, such as one YouTube clip that has logged more than 240,000 views.

It's illegal in California to provide salvia divinorum to a minor, but legal for a minor to possess it.

"Salvia is a drug of concern," a Drug Enforcement Agency spokesman told MTV News. "We are taking steps to look further into it, but for right now, it is not a schedule-one narcotic."

Click here to read about salvia in more detail -- including whether it's addictive, and whether it's like LSD, among other fascinating details.

Miley Cyrus bong-smoking video has dad Billy Ray 'so sad'

Cyrus-familyMiley Cyrus' bong smoking video was finally enough to get dad Billy Ray Cyrus to criticize his daughter's behavior. Well, almost criticize it.

"Sorry guys. I had no idea," he said Friday on Twitter. "Just saw this stuff for the first time myself. I'm so sad. There is much beyond my control right now."

He and Miley's mom, Tish, filed for divorce in October after 17 years of marriage.

Billy Ray, who costarred in "Hannah Montana" with Miley, has previously defended her in situations where her behavior raised eyebrows. For example, when she held a pole and danced at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards, when she posed semi-nude for Vanity Fair, when she made racy videos for "Can't Be Tamed" and "Who Owns My Heart," and when video surfaced showing her grinding her butt into the crotch of fortysomething film producer Adam Shankman at the wrap party for her film "The Last Song."  (We didn't hear what he thought about the cleavage-baring maxi dress she wore to meet the queen.)

Miley turned 18 in November, and if -- as sources told TMZ -- she was smoking the hallucinogenic herb salvia divinorum at her L.A. pad and not marijuana, she wasn't breaking any laws. Still, it must be hard for a dad to see his little girl all grown up.

Miley Cyrus bong hit 'documented' -- but it was salvia, honest

Miley Cyrus bong hit of salvia Miley Cyrus has a new video out -- and in it she's smoking from a bong at her L.A.-area home five days after her 18th birthday in November. The herbaceous culprit? Allegedly not pot, but salvia, sources told TMZ.

More on salvia later.

In the video, taken by a friend who wanted to "document the [heck] out of this" and posted by TMZ, Cyrus goes from "having a little bit of a bad trip" to laughing her butt off to, well, acting pretty much like an idiot. You know that laugh? Yeah, there's that laugh.

"Is that a ... Liam lookalike or what?" she asks. "Is that my boyfriend?"

Um, no, Liam Hemsworth does not appear to have been in the house.

Keeping with the relaxed vibe, the Eagles' "Take It Easy" -- which we hear is a big hit with the kids these days? -- can be heard in the background.

Salvia divinorum, an herb with hallucinogenic properties, is legal to buy and possess in California, as is marijuana, for those with a prescription. (We'll have to get back to you on whether tobacco smoking is still legal in the Golden State, however. Depends on the city.)
