2012 Range Rover Evoque.

First drive: 2012 Range Rover Evoque

On looks alone, Range Rover's Evoque is going to be as popular as condoms at the Olympic games (in 2000, Sydney's game organizers stocked an average of 10 for each of the athletes attending and still ran out).

2012 Subaru Impreza.

First drive: 2012 Subaru Impreza

The Subaru brand, despite staunch support by a clutch of loyal owners, has been dogged by a few issues in the mainstream marketplace. Its products, while acknowledged as being well built, reliable and above average at retaining their value, have struggled for acceptance.

2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible.

Road test: 2011 Chevrolet Camaro SS Convertible

The engineers who designed the 2011 Camaro convertible must not like convertibles very much. Convertibles are problematic, so the theory goes. They shake, rattle and roll like a sequined Michael Jackson on OxyContin, and they most certainly aren't very quiet with the top up.

2011 Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon.

Road test: 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Sport Wagon

It's a Cadillac station wagon and it's as fast as a Ferrari. OK, I lie - it's not quite as fast as Ferrari but that's only because it's a little porky. It weighs 1,995 kilograms, after all. But, it is as powerful as a Ferrari - 556 horsepower and a whopping 551 pound-feet of supercharged torque are plenty in anyone's book unless you're captaining an oil tanker.

2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG.

Road test: 2012 Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG

When the Mercedes-Benz CLS debuted, it did so as one of the first so-called coupe-sedans. The object of the exercise was to produce a four-door car with the rakish roofline and sporty profile of a two-door coupe. It worked then and it still does today - there is surprisingly little compromise to the design.

The 2012 BMW 650i Cabriolet.

Road test: 2012 BMW 650i Cabriolet

Call me a traditionalist, but I've always preferred convertibles to be on the smaller side, the MGB and the Miata being typical of my opencockpit tastes. But after blasting around Metro Vancouver in the new-for-2012 BMW 650i Cabriolet for a few days, the idea of an uber-sized convertible began to grow on me.

The 2012 Acura TL.

Road test: 2012 Acura TL

The previous Acura TL might have been the bestkept secret in the performance luxury segment. Not because Acura doesn't build top quality machines, and not because the previous car wasn't a true performer. On the contrary, the previous TL had luxury and performance to spare. What it didn't have was a cohesive design that motivated buyers to try the TL over cars such as the BMW 5 Series, Infiniti M or Audi A6.

2010 Chevrolet Equinox.

Road test: 2011 Chevrolet Equinox

Consumers have taken a shine to crossovers and manufacturers have responded with dozens of models. The 2011 modelyear Chevrolet Equinox is the second-generation version of a mid-sized crossover offered by General Motors.

2011 Chevrolet Cruze Eco.

Road test: 2011 Chevy Cruze Eco

Almost every press car I evaluate fails to achieve the fuel economy ratings posted by either the manufacturer or Transport Canada. There are exceptions, of course. And driving behavior (read, cement foot) has more impact on missing the mark than anything else.

2009 Buick Emclave CX.

Road Test: 2009 Buick Enclave CX

I was not prepared to be impressed with the Buick Enclave. A pal of mine who experienced some of GM's poor quality a few years back thinks I'm crazy to like this SUV so much.

Road test: 2010 GMC Terrain

Three things become immediately apparent upon driving the 2010 GMC Terrain: First, it has a very gentle, smooth and likeable ride. Second, it has an attractive dash, with lots of colour, smart-looking instruments and contrasting materials. But third, oh my, third is when you realize the 4-cylinder engine is going to satisfy no one under 70 years old.
