Another disappointing lineup. Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, Earl Klugh, Vince Gill and Albert Lee are the only guitar players in this show that are worthy. The rest of them...pffft. Where are the true modern guitar virtuosos like John McLaughlin, Steve Morse, Eric Johnson, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, and Tuck Andress? There are dozens of more exciting, skilled players out there other than And the absolutely dreadful John Mayer should not be part of anything that claims to be a Guitar Festival- leave him to his People Magazine interviews and pop song garbage.

Sheryl Crow? SHERYL CROW???????

This has got to be Chicago's answer to Woodstock.

Postobjectivist, you have to remember the idea behind Crossroads is more Clapton gathering his friends for a great day of music as opposed to aiming to put together the greatest guitar lineup possible.

MadChicagoan you are completely off base, if you knew anything about guitar players you would know that Joe Bonamassa, Roberty Cray, Robert Randolph, and yes John Mayer are all amazing on the strings. Please don't go-someone who actually respects this lineup will be able to enjoy it.

HeY postobjectivist!
Ever hear of Derek Trucks? Didn't think so...
yeah, too busy paying attention to the "Flash" ,the "Guitar Olympics Shredder"types.
Beck /Clapton have a majesty of sound...wait till you hear Beck's new album
The fact that you mention Mayer only in connection with People Mag only proves my point. I know this, his chops will kick most peoples' butt off the stage.
He's even doing a Beck-esque trembar/volume/ harmonics thing now.
You're not paying attention, just buying the hype.
I'm not a big Mayer guy, but he can really play.
McLaughlin has played Crossroads, not sure why not this time.

Willing to give this a chance until I saw Sheryl Crow's name.
Sheryl Crow is to music, what McD's is to food.

I like the guitarists, but I go for the bass players and drummers. Willie Weeks played bass the last time with Eric and he killed. Tal Wilkenfeld made nutty Jeff Beck look good. Duck Dunn did the first one in Texas as did Nathan East.

carlos santana will be there also

AHZROC- Yes, I have heard of Derek Trucks and he's quite a unique player but I'm not into slide. Mayer is HORRIBLE. If you think "he can really play" you have just proved once and for all that you know jack about good guitar playing. It's just the truth. That fool is what you get if you combine the guy who sang "How Do You Talk With An Angel" and a tenth-rate SRV wannabe. Jeez- chances are some random wanker at Guitar Center is better than him. Oh- and Jeff Beck was on my list yet you felt the need to criticize me on him. So much hostility towards those expressing their opinions...apology accepted.
Good playing is good playing- I don't believe in this juvenile "Guitar Olympics" nonsense. You don't hear that crap applied to sax players, piano players, violin players so why should guitar players be any different when it comes to ability to play? It comes down to people without ability criticizing those who can play play well (yes, and even with speed if need be). The guys I listed are brilliant guitarists who have mega chops- but they don't just blaze away all day...how boring would that be? Go take another listen. I notice you didn't comment on Tuck Andress...would you call him a shredder too?? Or maybe you don't know of his amazing fingerstyle playing...yeah, you're welcome.
Clapton hasn't learned a new lick since 1968. If that's your thing, hey, good luck with that. I like EXCITING guitar players and this lineup is mainly a snoozefest. To me. Yes, in my opinion. Deal with it.

John Mayer is one of the best modern day guitarists hands down

Hope it isn't as hot as last time. Great show last time, it'll be great again this time. Glad it's back.

Is Joan Jett appearing, too? :)

Too bad it's in the burbs...

Sonny Landreth is worth the price of admission alone.

I was told by a couple of BOZO's I work with that Dave Matthews (if anyone even remembers him) should have been included on this list.

No Steve Hackett or Roine Stolt?

And yet probably no one will utter the name of a guitar player and home town boy that had the most influence for all of these players.....Michael Bloomfield. One could also add the Buttterfield Blues Band too

those of you who went to the last one-what time should a person show up to get a good spot on the field?
Posted by: chuck thomas | April 22, 2010 at 08:02 AM
For those of you not familiar, Joe Bonamassa is one of the more talented guitarists out there, and I recommend all look for the band Bloodline's debut album, with Waylan Krieger, Robbie's son, Miles Davis Jr., Berry Oakley Jr. (former Guess Who bassist), killer album.
Beware of surprise guests, as I am looking forward to it as well!
