Fulton teacher accused of sex with student
A 26-year-old female teacher is facing charges after she was accused of having a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student at Fulton High School.

Fulton, Illinois Police say they got a report from the River Bend School District office that allegations were made of an improper relationship between a student and a teacher.

“An investigation was initiated, and the result revealed a sexual relationship involving a 16-year-old student,” said Lt. Donnie Pridemore of the Fulton Police Department.

The teacher, Nicole Letcher, 26, of Fulton, was arrested and charged with six counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a minor.   Letcher was expected to be arraigned in Whiteside County Court on May 26, 2011.

Letcher teaches English at Fulton High School.  An online search showed she was also formerly the sponsor of the school's sophomore class.

Ashford University recently awarded a full scholarship to Letcher to pursue her Master of Arts in Education.  The scholarship was awarded April 20, 2011.

A statement from the school district said Letcher was suspended until further notice.

“The Administration and Board of Education of River Bend Community Unit School District #2 take the allegations seriously and are deeply saddened by any such allegations involving a teacher and a student.  The safety and well-being of students is the top priority for both the Administration and the Board of Education.  If warranted by the findings of the investigation, the Board of Education will not hesitate to dismiss the teacher and take other action to report the teacher to the State of Illinois Teacher Certification Board and other appropriate authorities,” the statement said.
