Taste of Chicago 2011 announces budget-crunched lineup

Taste-chicago Headliners for Taste of Chicago 2011 will include Loretta Lynn (July 1), the Jayhawks (July 2) and Natalie Cole (June 30).

Folded into the Taste lineup in Grant Park will be one-day versions of four formerly freestanding festivals: Viva! Chicago Latin Music Day (June 24), Gospel Music Day (June 26), Celtic Music Day (June 29) and Country Music Day (July 1). The consolidation was forced by a city budget crunch; lakefront festivals alone lost $1.7 million in 2008, $3.7 million in 2009 and $1.5 million in 2010.

Here’s the complete lineup announced Friday by the Chicago Park District:

June 24: Los Horoscopos de Durango

June 25: To be announced

June 26: Reverend Milton Brunson’s Thompson Community Singers and Donald Lawrence.

June 27:  Broadway in Chicago with the casts of “Beauty and The Beast,” “Million Dollar Quartet,” “West Side Story,” “Mary Poppins,” “Memphis,” “The Addams Family” and others.

June 28: The Lemonheads and MaterialReissue (formerly Material Issue, with new singer-guitarist Phil Angotti).

June 29: Natalie MacMaster with Liz Carroll, John Doyle and John Williams.

June 30: Natalie Cole

July 1: Loretta Lynn and Court Yard Hounds (Martie Mcguire and Emily Robison of the Dixie Chicks)

July 2: The Jayhawks with Everest

July 3: Greyson Chance and Shane Harper

Wow disappointing as always...

I'll miss the full Gospel Fest weekend, however, I will be at the Taste on June 26th to make a Joyful Noise and partake in the 1 day festivities on Gospel Music Day.

No complaints people, it is a FREE concert. If you want more, than pay MORE in taxes.

Have a nice day!!

I cant wait! Omg LORETTA LYNN! HELL YEA! saw her at taste of chicago in 03. She is a ICON! THANKS!

We've come a long way. Down, apparently.

The six years of Chicagofest averaged 600 performances per year and had headliners such as Frank Sinatra, The Beach Boys, The Doobie Brothers, Carole King, Chicago, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, The Lennon Sisters, Journey, The Commodores, Kool and The Gang, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Muddy Waters, Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick, the Blues Brothers Spyro Gyra, Chick Corea, Joan Jett, .38 Special, The Scorpions, The Buckinghams, Jan & Dean, just to name a few highlights.

And this is the best that we can come up with this year for Taste that is being billed as part of a combined music fest?

Wow what a terrible lineup....

This lineup reminds of the $1 bargain bin at a used CD shop ... Yet another reason to avoid the Taste! LOL

U have to b freaking kidding me. No REAL celebs-I aint going this year. First, time missing it in 10 years

Looks a lineup for one of the Chicago street fests! Wow, Taste of Chicago has really gone downhill.

Given the choice between high-ticket schlock and bargain bin schlock, I'll take the bargain bin schlock. (And Loretta Lynn, the Jayhawks and Material Reissue ain't nothin' to sneeze at.)

yawn

sure hope they plan on having some old R&B or something on the 25th!!! i look forward to the taste ever summer its my chicago weekend getaway. maybe ill make plan to go somewhere else

i love greyson chance !!!!!!!!!!!! hes soooo amazing........and sooo CUTE :)

Wow...I hate to say this but I guess I will be heading to the Milwaukee Summer Fest for the first time ever! The Taste's lineup is absolutely horrible. I will not be there..1st time I will be missing the taste in many years. :(
