Man charged in shooting death of his father during argument over gun
A 35-year-old Huntington Beach man was charged Monday in the shooting death of his father as the two were arguing over whether the son could keep the firearm in the home they were sharing.
Jeremy Dwayne Martin was charged with murder in the death Friday of 62-year-old Frederick Martin, the Orange County district attorney's office said. He is being held in lieu of $1-million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday.
Frederick Martin called Huntington Beach police when an argument over the gun Jeremy Martin was keeping in the house turned into a scuffle as the father tried to take the gun away. Police left after Jeremy Martin refused to speak with the officers.
After the officers left, the two began arguing again, as Frederick Martin did not want the gun in his home. Jeremy Martin allegedly fired the gun, striking his father once. He died at the scene.
