Today's Poll Question

POLL: Is heaven a fairy tale?

The preeminent physicist Stephen Hawking ruffled some feathers in a recent interview with a British newspaper, stating that the notion of heaven is "a fairy tale for people afraid of the dark." Do you think that he's right?

  • Absolutely not. There is an afterlife, and there is a heaven, because the Bible says so.
  • Absolutely. It's nice to think in terms of a perfect afterlife, and it helps us make peace with our own mortality, but in the end I think that death is final.
  • Maybe. If he means the image of harps and halos and the Pearly Gates in the clouds, then I can see calling it a fairy tale. But I do believe in the afterlife.
  • Impossible to say. None of us can know whether heaven exists. Not until we die. So his opinion is as good as anyone else's.
  • He's wrong, but it's typical of a scientist to refuse to have faith in anything he can't prove with a slide rule and a piece of graph paper.
  • Maybe he's right and maybe he's wrong - but if he's wrong, I wouldn't want to be standing too close when God smacks him down for his impudence.
  • Hmmm .... God or Stephen Hawking? God or Stephen Hawking? Let's see ... I think I'll put my trust in God.
