Development
thedailycougar.com was developed by UH alumnus Aaron Alexander (’09) and UH Student Publications Production Manager Matt Dulin (’07). It runs on WordPress MU hosted by MediaTemple.
The site templates are based upon the Hybrid WordPress theme framework and benefits from the added functionality of several plugins, too many to list here.
Almost all of the interactivity and dynamic features of the site are powered by jQuery.
Typography
For typography, we are using Helvetica/Arial for body text and captions and Vegur for display type, using @font-face.
Additional notes
We rely on some external services to power special features. We used Yahoo! Pipes to display content from other sites, including Flickr. To power our online classifieds, we partnered with CampusAve. We provide interactive versions of our print edition using issuu. All of the ads on the site are served by OpenX Community Hosted, but the ads themselves are maintained by Daily Cougar staff.
