August Burns Red Guitarist Sees a Championship in Phillies' Future

Solid State

August Burns Red guitarist JB Brubaker is a diehard Philadelphia Phillies fan who is hoping to see his team, which features one of the best rotations in baseball history, return to the World Series this year.

"The Phillies are off to a hot start despite their offense slumping as a whole," Brubaker told Noisecreep. Despite some offensive slowness, the guitarist has not resorted to hanging out on the ledge... yet. "I believe if they win two of their next four games they will tie the franchise record for most wins in the month of April, which is 17," he said. "I certainly can't complain about that. Thank goodness we have such stellar pitching."

Impending Doom Announce Noctural Alliance Tour Dates

Facedown Records

A nocturnal alliance has formed between Impending Doom, Mychildren Mybride, A Bullet For Pretty Boy, This or The Apocalypse, and The Crimson Armada. The quintet of bands will hit the road together this summer, traipsing across the US and Canada.

"Well, it's that time again," Impending Doom guitarist Cory Johnson told Noisecreep. "Summer is approaching at a rapid speed and that means endless sun, BBQ's, pool parties, and of course, tour! It may just be our favorite time to tour, and this time we get to do it with some great friends -- old and new -- on the Nocturnal Alliance Tour. We can't wait to get this started so mark your calendars and come party with us!" Impending Doom will release their next album via eOne later this year.

Disturbed to Donate Song Proceeds to West Memphis Three Defense Fund

Disturbed

Disturbed are the latest in a long line of rockers and actors including Henry Rollins and Johnny Depp to show their support of The West Memphis Three, a trio of Arkansas teens who were convicted of murdering three little boys in Arkansas in 1994. The band is unleashing the previously unreleased song '3' for 99 cents via their website. Every cent of the profits from the sale of the track will be donated to The Damien Echols Defense Fund.

The Damien Echols Defense Fund was established to pay for legal fees, forensic tests, and other investigative costs surrounding the West Memphis Three case. The Free the WM3 Support Fund is a group of private individuals who strongly believe that Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin, and Jessie Misskelley are serving prison terms for murders they did not commit.

Symfonia: A New Power Metal Supergroup -- Exclusive Interview

Armoury Records

When vocalist Andre Matos (formerly of Angra, Shaaman, Viper, and currently of the Andre Matos Band) and guitarist Timo Tollki (formerly of Stratovarius and Revolution Renaissance) collaborated to write songs, they planted the seeds towards creating the power metal supergroup known as Symfonia. Rounding out the band are Tollki's ex-bandmate in Stratovarius, bassist Jari Kainulainen, as well as keyboardist Mikko Harkin (Cain's Offering, ex-Sonata Arctica, ex-Kotipelto, ex-Solution.45) and drummer Uli Kusch (Gamma Ray, Helloween, Masterplan). The band's debut release is called 'In Paradisum.'

Matos recently spoke to Noisecreep about the band, the collaboration of the players involved, and the possibility of touring.

Swedish Death Metal Author Daniel Ekeroth on 'Sensationsfilms' Book

Bazillion Points

After causing major waves in the scene with his 'Swedish Death Metal' book, author and musician Daniel Ekeroth has set his sights on the exploitation film genre. 'Swedish Sensationsfilms: A Clandestine History of Sex, Thrillers and Kicker Cinema' is Ekeroth's new tome, exploring the underground Swedish movie scene of the '60s to the early '90s.

Ekeroth dives into his subject matter with the kind of attention to detail that even celebrated documentarian Ken Burns could appreciate. In a recent review of 'Swedish Sensationfilms,' the Austin Chronicle gushed, "This encyclopedic overview of the grimy-great underbelly of Swedish filmmaking reveals more delightfully depraved and downright perverse 'sensationsfilms' than possibly even Lisbeth Salander could countenance."

Incubus Guitarist Mike Einziger on Ozzy and the New Album -- Interview

jpistudios.com

'God Bless Ozzy Osbourne,' the new film documenting Ozzy Osbourne's life beyond the spotlight, is soundtracked with dozens of songs by Osbourne as well as Black Sabbath. However when the producers wanted to incorporate another type of music into the film, they recruited Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger to compose a score that would capture the non-rock star parts of Osbourne's life.

"Everyone thinks he's this big British heavy metal superstar or kind of a crazy funny guy, and he's become a celebrity for being this funny, lovable, quirky kind of guy," Einziger recently told Noisecreep. "But with the movie, I think they wanted to show that he's a humble, kind man with a lot to offer the world than just being a crazy person. So they asked me to make music based on those ideas. It would be more emotional and slightly more interconnected because a lot of the music in the film is Black Sabbath and Ozzy's own music from his solo career. That's a lot of loud rock music for the most part, so [my pieces are] supposed to be the counterweight to all that rock music. I was very happy to accept that responsibility."

MikeMangini.com

Recording session ace Mike Mangini has officially been named the new drummer of Dream Theater. The Boston based musician is known for his work in Extreme, Annihilator, and Steve Vai's band.

The announcement was made in the latest episode of 'The Spirit Carries On,' a video series launched by Dream Theater that documented their drummer audition process. The other musicians that were trying out for the gig included powerhouse drummers Virgil Donati (Planet X), Peter Wildoer (Darkane), Thomas Lang (Glenn Hughes), Derek Roddy (Malevolent Creation), Marco Minnemann (Kreator), and Aquiles Priester (Angra).

Original drummer and founding member Mike Portnoy left Dream Theater in September 2010 after 25 years with the progressive metal giants.
