Former care home in Chapeltown damaged by fire

Crews tackle the fire fire in Leeds Firefighters used an aerial ladder to tackle the flames

A former care home in Leeds has been badly damaged in a fire.

Crews were called to Harehills Lane in the Chapeltown area of the city on Friday evening.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue used an aerial platform to pour water on the flames and four crews tackled the blaze wearing breathing equipment.

Nearby residents said a loud bang was heard followed by thick smoke. An investigation is being carried out into the cause of the fire.
