Alfredo Simon coming to a ballpark near you

Orioles pitcher Alfredo Simon, who has been embroiled in a legal morass since he was implicated in a shooting incident in the Dominican Republic, will make a start for the Bowie Baysox tomorrow in a rare 11:05 game at Prince Georges Stadium.

Not sure what the Orioles are going to do with Simon once he's ready to rejoin the 40-man roster, but I'm going to head down to Bowie with Dan Connolly tomorrow morning to check him out.

I'll have some updates on his performance here.

I'm not holding my breath Pete. He does have some filthy stuff, but he just never seemed to put it all together.

Ok, that was a heads up move by Adam Jones. Freak play...

Man this bullpen is gonna be the death of me. At least Gonzo seems to be back on track.

can he hit?

mr filthy mcnasty has an era over 5

someone tell me how a guy with good stuff can be so bad?

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet this year, but an impressive early season stat is that Arrieta currently has better than a 2:1 K:BB ratio, after having 46BB and 44K's coming into this season. Also, he's on pace to K 184 this season, which would be pretty good.

Just an observation, even with a not large sample size.

simon can take the place of rupe or rapada tomorrow

Watching the game on MLB TV and the KC announcers wouldn't shut up about that sick heads up play by Adam Jones. Not many players would have the IQ to do what Adam Jones did. That's a gamer right there!

@jim66 ... on Simon ... agreed!

dave, nice to see reynolds get 3 hits tonite.
just let him and matt hit 7th and 8th

What was the play that Jones made?

So the U.S. allows a non-U.S. citizen with murder charges against him into the country?

@James,

Well ... I should have said the play he didn't make ... really. You've got to see if you haven't. The ball stuck underneath the padding in the outfield. Instead of picking it up Adam Jones just waved his hands and claimed the ball was stuck. They had to call it a ground rule double. Adam basically saved two runs with that. Anybody else would have dug the ball out and throw it back. The umps ended up calling it a ground rule double. What a heads up by Adam.

I'd love to see a "seen the light" and focused Simon. Can't wait for the report Pete. Live arm, live stuff...he could have an important role for the O's.

joefoss,

That's low. it mad me laugh, and I feel bad for doing so...but it made me laugh, I mean... that was low.

Adam Jones play was pretty amazing. I'll give it to him. Brilliant!

(I mean, there's no way he was looking for a bail out right...like he was just hoping...)

Nah, seriously, if he knew the rule like that...Gold Glove CF. Oh wait...yeah he is!

Luke Scott, coming to a KKK meeting near you. How pathetic, bigotry in 2011.
SAD!

It's a baseball Blob anonymous, so shut up. Besides, Luke crushes it. And since you're a democrat, you likely threw more slurs at Bush than our great Senator Babs at a weinie roast.

We're coming to a blog near you. Four names, one person, one purpose.

To take down wayne, Gil, Meso and Blancione

I figured it out: wayne is andy mcphail behind the screen.

Wear your kevlar Pete.

OK kids!

Time to remind you the unwritten rules of this blog. No need to namecall each other. Keep politics out of it. And let's talk some baseball.

Hey Peter,

You and Dan are lucky.
It's a beautiful day! Also, make sure you wear sun screen. I took the day off on Tuesday to go golfing and didn't think about the sun screen. Anyway, I am extremely curious about Alfredo Simon.
I want him to do well, we need someone with a live arm.

Nice to see Markakis turn on the ball. Hopefully, he will remember which of his 1,000 stances he was using. Next I expect to see him start running up in the box like the Japanese players and yell "QYEEYAH!" when he swings. He has done everything else except stand on his head at the plate.

As far as Simon is concerned I think he may be an upgrade if he is healthy and his legal problems are truly over. I was at a game last year when he was throwing 97 and 98.

wayne is James C

James C is wayne.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
