Whether you're calling it Project Café or Wii 2, the fact is (as we understand it) that Nintendo is preparing to launch a new console in the next year or so. Reports peg the announcement as coming at or before E3 in June, and hopefully the tidal wave of rumors will spur the company to do it sooner rather than later. Probably not though. Nintendo veteran Shigeru Miyamoto isn't willing to talk about it, as a recent interview with the "Zelda" and "Mario" creator made clear.

Reports have emerged in recent days that Nintendo will be unveiling a new gaming console at this year's E3. The company has yet to issue an official statement -- and likely won't, until just before or during the June trade show -- but the mounting number of sources speaking out on the news have all but confirmed it. Some new details have now come out on the makeup of this Wii 2's controller, which is said to feature a built-in touchscreen.

Apple TV

The latest update to Apple TV, version 4.2 (not to be confused with the recently released iOS 4.3), adds some interesting new functionality features to that tiny, streaming bundle of media. The big part of the update adds support for MLB.com and NBA.com, which allows you to surf scores and, if you're a subscriber to those services, watch games live without the need for a cable box. AirPlay functionality has also been opened to 3rd party apps.

If you don't mind having a wire dangling down over your chest, there are plenty of options for online gamers who want to talk smack amongst their friends over a headset. In the wireless realm however, pickings are a whole lot slimmer. The Xbox 360's wireless functionality uses proprietary technology and Microsoft does not share it easily. Peripheral developer Mad Catz is now one of the lucky few however, as they're currently working on delivering a new wireless headset for use with the console.

The latest comes from two sources out of Japan, and both speak to the device itself and how it will play nice (or not) with Sony's back catalog of PlayStation Portable UMD releases.

All of those PSP2 rumors are sure heating up. And if Sony's past track record with tech releases and rumors is any indication, at least some of what we're hearing is true. It was only yesterday that we heard from one Japanese newspaper, reporting that the device will include a touch-sensitive OLED screen and 3G connectivity. Now 2ch, Japan's largest online forum, is home to what is purported to be an actual picture of the thing, which you can see above.

You might have read last week about the Fling, a detachable analog joystick of sorts made especially for the iPad. Held onto the device with the power of suction cups and love (mostly the former), it offers a welcome, if somewhat inelegant, solution for those who can't make do with in-game virtual controls. Now there's another option coming from ThinkGeek (the folks who brought you the iCade), a stylish add-on that is meant to summon up memories of bygone days spent in front of arcade cabinets: the JOYSTICK-IT Arcade Stick.

With Nintendo's 3DS handheld almost here, we're getting more glimpses of the soon-to-be-released device every day. The wait is pretty agonizing-- this is glasses-free 3-D we're talking about here, people. Even reports of a 3-5 hour battery life for games played in 3-D mode aren't enough to derail the excitement. Which is a good thing, since a crapton of photos have popped up online showcasing the delicate innards of a leaked 3DS.
