Video evidence leads judge to reject guilty plea from man charged with child abduction

An Ontario court judge has rejected a guilty plea from a man charged with abducting a child, saying the Crown’s effort to have the schizophrenic man declared a long-term offender was unjust despite his lengthy criminal record. Ontario Judge Dianne Nicholas rejected his plea after viewing a video of the event, which she said cast it in a different light from the facts read in to the record during his trial more than a year ago.
