Reports from Syria say thousands of people joined protests in the north of the country to push their demands for greater social and political freedoms.

More than a thousand students took to the streets in Aleppo.

Some accounts spoke of police using tear gas and making many arrests but there has been no independent confirmation.

Wyre Davies reports from the Syrian Jordanian border as foreign journalists are not being allowed into Syria.
